Dear Bug Team!
Howdy. I just pulled down and compiled 21.5.3 in the hopes that it
would solve a problem that's been plaguing me for a while now, namely
that XEmacs has been hanging or crashing regularly on me.
I didn't have these problems with 21.1.8; they began to show up in the
21.4 gammas and the 21.5 betas. The problem is that XEmacs begins to
spit out X errors after it's been running for a while. The errors
look like:
xemacs: X Error of failed request: BadFont (invalid Font parameter)

The freeze generally happens when I'm trying to load something that
defines a lot of faces (e.g., cperl-mode or Gnus)
I've also seen it generate failed requests for opcodes 20 and 0 when
I'm switching between CDE workspaces.
I'm running in CDE on a SunRay, and my Emacs related X resources are
as follows:

RPM spec file for XEmacs and related problems

Hi there,
missing an "official" XEmacs RPM spec file , I wrote one based on Mandrake
and SuSE spec files. The aim was to have hassle-free, vendor-neutral
spec for XEmacs. I've tested it with 21.4.4 and packages of
2001-07-09. It builds xemacs without mule, xemacs-mule,
xemacs-gtk,xemacs-gtk-gnome, xemacs-el, xemacs-info, xemacs-extras
packages.
Two problems I had:
1) Makefile.in.in calls somewhere -l check-fetures with -batch but
without -vanilla. Building no-mule xemacs with some mule stuff in
.emacs doesn't work then.
2) I would gladly keep XEmacs info files separatly from other info
files at system. But they must be of course be available from XEmacs
info buffer. This can be achieved by modifing dir file in the usual
system info directory, so it shows to XEmacs info files. Or to put
XEmacs info file in separate directory(ies) and modify INFOPATH of
Info-directory-list. To my pity install-info doesn't let for any path
references. It just put entries to info files as they were in the
dir's directory!! Putting XEmacs info files into different directory
means that user has to modify INFOPATH or Info-directory-list. That
means that RPMs built this way are not directly usable after
installation. Any tips?
BTW: sample .Xdefaults is wrong about

Anyone who wants to implement "postscript" image support for XEmacs?
(Emacs 21 has it, so it might be possible to rip it off, altough that
implementation is slow, invoking external "gs" processes.)
FYI I ported most of the preview-latex package to XEmacs, but I didn't
realize until now that XEmacs didn't support postscript glyphs.
Look at http://preview-latex.sourceforge.net/ for what you can
do.. quite cool, LaTeX editing in Emacs!

Hi All,
I have made good progress over the weekend.
>From this:
Linklink checked 740 urls:
654 were ok, 71 failed. 81 urls moved.
30 hosts failed: 33 urls could be retried.
32 files had failed urls.
There were 64 files with broken links.
we went to this:

677 were ok, 42 failed. 59 urls moved.
9 hosts failed: 14 urls could be retried.
16 files had failed urls.
There were 23 files with broken links.
I would appreciate any help in hunting down any of the ones below.
Please note local filenames are all shown in lower-case, which is not
correct.
It probably has to do with the fact that I ran linklint-2.3.3 from
Windows 2000.

How to help debug numerous crashes of 21.4.4 on Windows?

I have Cygwin-XEmacs 21.4.4 installed on my win2k system. Every couple of
days, it crashes at random times, usually while doing things in GNUS. Just
before it goes away, I see a DOS window come up and print something, but it
goes away before I can read it. Just now, it happened again, and I guess it
had to do some swapping right after the DOS window came up, so I was able to
read the message, which said something like: "Windows procedure called during
GC?".
Is there anything familiar about this problem? Is there anything I can do to
get a little more information about this?
If the fix has something to do with updating my installed packages, I'd love to
figure out how to do that, as it doesn't work on my installation (due to some
issue in FTP/EFS). Adrian Aichner and others spent several days trying to
figure out this issue before giving up. Is there a SUMO package I can manual
install to get around this particular problem?

Hello,
My question must be simple: I have installed version 21.4.4 on a Red-Hat 7.1
linux at work, but I cannot see any dialog boxes like I do in the 21.1.14 I
have installed at home. If I try Edit>Find for instance I receive an error
message: make-search-dialog undefined. Have I done anything wrong during the
installation?

i upgraded from 21.1 to 21.4, and I think there is a small bug with
recent-files. recent-files-menu-path has the value ("File"). On
21.1. I had the menu entry correctly added as a submenu on the File
menu. Now the same menu is added twice, once as a sumbenu on the File

Above link is in the XEmacs FAQ.
During systematic link-checking with linklint I found that it no
longer exists.
Is there an alternate location where I can find it?
Should I take it out of the XEmacs FAQ?
