Dear Bug Team!
I found a bug in read-passwd. When I use sql-oracle from sql.el,
disconnect, and reconnect, read-passwd (invoked by an sql-read-passwd
function) will not terminate on enter. I've checked what enter is
supposed to do -- call exit-minibuffer -- and manually calling
exit-minibuffer terminates the read-passwd correctly. My unelightened
guess is that the minibuffer keybindings are not getting set on the
second read-passwd call, or are getting blasted somewhere and not
repaired.
Aside from this little bug, XEmacs is so far ahead of the editing field
that I cringe when coerced into using alternatives. Thanks for the
sterling work.

Dear Bug Team!
When I use Gnus on a client invoked with gnuclient -nw remotely,
periodically I am unable to scroll down using 'SPC'. I think I've
tracked this down to the following code snippet in
gnus-summary-next-page:

When SPC behaves as it should the underlined code returns non-nil When
the problem happens article window gets bound to nil. Quitting and
restarting XEmacs gets rid of this behavior.
I've discussed this issue on the ding list and they seem to be out of
ideas.

I'd be more comfortable if this were named "undedicate_buffer_windows"
or "undedicate_windows_of_buffer". I guess it's possible that this
is the only context in which this operation makes sense, but the
redundancy doesn't hurt that much.

NEW VERSION OF MULE STUFF: Very close to working on all platforms

Mostly I've done a bunch of cleanup work. I also fixed the various bugs pointed
out by Fabrice, Daniel Pittman, and others, although not yet Matej's, which are
harder. It definitely should work on Windows w/Mule [probably without as well],
and Cygwin w/o Mule. Probably on other platforms as well. One problem I've
noticed so far is with Cygwin w/Mule: you get a crash at startup in
parse-unicode-translation-table. I don't quite know what the problem is and
haven't been able to debug it yet, as the debugger keeps locking up. MS Win
does the same code, though, without problems, so it almost looks like either a
GCC bug or a bug in sscanf[]. Anyway, I'd love it if people on other platforms
could test with and without Mule and see how [or whether] it works. Also, pdump
might be working; I'm not sure. It compiles but I haven't had much chance to
test the result. Another thing to note is that coding-system support is now ON
by default on all platforms: but on Unix non-Mule platforms, all defaults are
set to `binary', so that auto-decoding is disabled and essentially you should
get behavior just like when not compiling with file-coding. Pretty soon I'm
going to disable the option of compiling without file-coding. Please also test
this and see how it comes out. Once I finally lick all of these configuration
issues and such, I'll be tackling the following:
-- some annoying bugs pointed out by Matej, e.g. not writing out the FFFE at the
beginning of Unicode files.
-- improving the detection scheme, both so that you get better results and it's
more flexible, and especially importantly so that you don't get data loss! This
is currently a BIG problem.
-- The dreaded "Russian C-x" problem. some days ago i did a bunch of work
getting the underlying stuff up to snuff, and I'm not so far from finishing
this.
Perhaps at that point XEmacs/Mule will really be usable in Windows!

module can also be unloaded?

Hah, good shot! Apparently progress gauge is the culprit. After setting
progress-feedback-use-echo-area to t and thus make progress gauge not
use widgets, everything looks as it should. Thanks for your help, Andy!
BTW, I use 3D Athena widgets. Haven't tried with standard Athena widgets
so far to see if this makes a difference.

`x_output_string' in `redisplay-x.c' may consider frame with input
focus not to have one. So it does not draw cursor of that frame.
This depends on whether right value of `DEVICE_FRAME_WITH_FOCUS_REAL
(d)' for that frame is set. Setting that field occurs in
`emacs_handle_focus_change_preliminary' in `event-stream.c'.
When window manager iconifies one xemacs frame and passes input focus
to another, xemacs can get (or not get - race condition) `XEvent'
sequence where the last one is `FocusOut' for the frame losing focus.
I can not cause my X environment to reproduce such a sequence
reliably. The simplest way to simulate it is using debugger to print
`FocusOut' events in `emacs_Xt_event_handler' and then call
`emacs_Xt_event_handler' with an appropriate (for a frame that has
just lost focus) event from value history.
An event sequence like that causes
`emacs_handle_focus_change_preliminary' to act as if no xemacs frame
with focus remains. Comment in code doing this says:

And this ignoring does not work for me, the messing up really occurs.
Without this comment I would just change this, but now that it is
there, I need to know, what is the `sensible behavior' it achieves and
why can not it be done otherwise. In particular, what harm will the
patch below cause?
Perhaps some environments are bogus and ignoring the frame reported in
the event should be done for them only, but not for ones like mine.
Then there should be a device field showing what kind of behavior is
desired on that device (with default value for a `typical' environment
of xemacs build).
Since the msg both contains a patch that worked for me and requests
for discussion, I cross-post it.
The patch is to r-21-5-3.
* event-stream.c (emacs_handle_focus_change_preliminary): consider
focus lost on device only if frame losing focus is one currently
having it.
