Dear Bug Team!
I haven't been able to get this to happen reliably, but it seems as
though buffers are getting reordered from time to time. Where I see
it most often is in the following steps:
* Enter dired and walk a directory tree.
* Using dired, edit a file.
* Make many changes to the file, save it, and kill the buffer.
Normally, after this, you would be back in the last dired buffer that
you were working on, but lately I seem to wind up back in the scratch
buffer (but not always). I usually have to rerun dired and walk the
directories again. The dired buffer(s) are still there, it just isn't
the top buffer anymore.

... and a third time, from a different account.
The only reason I can see why the previous two attempts failed would
be that there's binary byte-code in the traceback. I stripped it and
replaced it with "..." this time, to see if that would work.
Apologies if this has actually turned up 3 times, but it's *definitely*
not in the xemacs-beta archives.

Dear Bug Team!
When I select the "Page Setup" menu from XEmacs, I get a crash
(assertion failure). This is on both Windows 2000 and XP, with release

GNU Emacs supports a fifth argument to load, MUST-SUFFIX, described as
If optional fifth arg MUST-SUFFIX is non-nil, insist on
the suffix `.elc' or `.el'; don't accept just FILE unless
it ends in one of those suffixes or includes a directory name.
What is this good for (besides breaking the Oort-Gnus build)?

XEmacs does crash when I visit a PNG file, but that doesn't tell me
we've got a faulty library. It's more likely to me that the glue code
in XEmacs between libpng and the app is at fault in that it's probably
not handling console-mode properly. I can visit a JPG file and it
enters image mode properly. Obviously no image is displayed, but it
doesn't crash.

Possibly. I'm currently running the up-to-date version of libpng
(1.2.5 with local modifications for FreeBSD) and that's what is linked
to my XEmacs binary.

I cc'ed him on an earlier message, but according to the port's
makefile, he is Michael Elbel <me(a)freebsd.org> but this is roughly
four years old (last updated 24 Apr 1999).

Change in expand-file-name in Emacs

I just changed expand-file-name in Emacs to possibly invoke a file
handler after it's done. Consider a filename that looks like this:
/foo/bar/../../user＠host:/x/y
After processing the ".." parts, we arrive at
/user＠host:/x/y
which happens to be the right answer in this case, but it turns out
that the "/x/y" part might still contain stuff that requires the
file handler.
So I made it so that, in Emacs, expand-file-name, after doing the
normal non-file-handler thing, looks again whether it can find a
handler and invokes that.
Maybe you want to do this in XEmacs, too?
