OK. On an ultra-10 with solaris 8 and xemacs-21.1p14 I have just updated the
cvs'd package tree with co <blah> update, and in ~/ilisp/packages typed:
$ make autoloads
$ make bindist
and it worked. Hmmm. I'm running the stable branch and do not have mule.
Could this be the problem?

[AC 21.5] Fix merge and font-lock problems

This fixes the font-lock and and another merge problem in 21.5. There is
still a crash when you try and bring up the search dialog, but that looks
more to do with ben's redisplay changes. I may be wrong - it may just be
that it doesn't show up under 21.4.

I'm trying to build under Solaris 5.5. First I run 'make autoloads'

Also, can you give me an exact way to reproduce from -vanilla [e.g.using one of
the xpm's provided with XEmacs, or one supplied by you]?

I have an assertion failure generated by (turn-on-font-lock) from the latest
CVS XEmacs compiled under cygwin (also with latest CVS packages).
The assertion failure is:

I was reading mail with gnus, when I pressed a cretain combination of
keys and a menu poped up near the upper right corner of the frame. It
could have been the "Help" menu, I'm not sure. Then it crashed
quickly after that. I do have menu accelerators enabled.

That text is in the README in the same directory, and in the info
manual. Do users generally read the elisp to find these things out?
But I guess the text can be added (before all the french stuff) -- I
think it is best to wait until the up-stream sources is commited
though, so all complete XEmacs modifications are stored in the CVS
history.
Assuming, of course, that the license is OK. There already is a
debian package for it, FWIW.

Neither XEmacs 21.4 nor 21.5 can find a module in the system module
directory. The way that the Makefiles are set up now, that is
${libdir}/${instvardir}/${configuration}/modules (e.g., on my system,
that is /usr/local/lib/xemacs-21.5-b6/i686-pc-linux/modules).
However, module-load-path is set in dump-paths.el by evaluating
(paths-find-module-directory roots). That function is defined in
setup-paths.el with this body:
(paths-find-architecture-directory roots "modules"
nil configure-module-directory)
However, that function evaluates to
${libdir}/${instvardir}/${configuration}; i.e., it is missing the final
"/modules" component, causing XEmacs to fail to see modules in that
directory. The immediate problem is that
paths-find-architecture-directory, defined in find-paths.el, doesn't
look for the right combination of "base" and "system-configuration". In
fact, the first test looks plain wrong. It is
(paths-find-version-directory roots
(concat base system-configuration)
envvar default)
But since neither "base" nor "system-configuration" contain a "/"
character, concatenating them does not seem useful. Furthermore, the
system-configuration should contain the base, not the other way around,
given the way the paths are set up currently. So shouldn't that first
test be
(paths-find-version-directory roots
(paths-construct-path
(list system-configuration base)
envvar default)
instead? That works for the system module case. Does it break anything
else?

to Do The Right Thing on windows and unix platforms.
This patch has been committed to the windows branch but is recommended
for all lines.

Hi Folks!
I've seen quite a few bug reports for 21.5 that really should be Cc'd
to Ben seeing as though he's doing practically all of the work on core
CVS HEAD. So this patches 'report-xemacs-bug' to include Ben in the
Cc header for reports on 21.5 versions of XEmacs.
I've spoken to Ben about this and he is quite happy about it. I don't
see this as being a permanent situation and once things have calmed
down in 21.5 and more people are working on it again, I'll remove
Ben's address.
The new feature is of course customizable and there is an equivalent
setting for bug reports to non beta XEmacsen.
Steve T: If you'd like to receive carbon copies of bug reports to non
beta XEmacsen, just let me know and I'll set it up.
I'll put a new net-utils package in Pre-Release ASAP. Can I please
urge anyone using XEmacs 21.5 to upgrade to the latest net-utils as
soon as I've uploaded the package.
