How to insert Changelog files automatically

Hello
I know that when I use a file which is under version control (say RSC)
with the vc backend, I can arrange that the content of the vc log can
be inserted in the source file.
This can be done by putting something like this
%% $Log: free-boundary-beamer.tex,v $
at the file header.
Now can this be done, if the file in question is not under version
control? (The reason is that for tex file reftex now allows me to
locate my changes better, that is reftex would add in which section or
close to which equation the change occurred.)
So I would like to have something like
%% $Log: ChangeLog $
and then every entry into the change log file should be inserted in
the source file (best with the adequate comment syntax)
Is there any possibility?

This release is timed mostly to get myself back in the swing of
things. However, the fixes to window configuration and Unicode keysym
support are important and I recommend that those who aren't following
CVS HEAD update to this version.
I know there are some fixes for MC_ALLOC in the pipeline, and probably
some other developers with work in progress. Feel free to ask me to
roll a new beta release if that seems appropriate. Build reports (M-x
build-report) and bug reports (M-x report-xemacs-bug) are of course
very welcome.
Upload is currently in progress; please allow about 3 hours from the
date of this message for that to complete.

* XEmacs 21.5.22 "cucumber" is released.
"cucumber" is the twenty-third in the VEGETABLE series.
The successor to XEmacs 21.5.21 "corn", "cucumber" adds important fixes
to the window configuration code from Fabrice Popineau and Michael
Sperber. Aidan Kehoe added support for Unnnn-style keysyms on X11.
Although we still need better internal support for Unicode, this is an
important step.
For LISP programmers, Didier Verna added face aliasing support. This
has no immediate impact on users but will help us keep up with recent
changes in GNU Emacs face naming conventions, which are pervasive.
Marcus Crestani has performed a number of cleanups on his new
allocator code. There have been a few bug reports recently, but they
don't seem to affect very many people. Marcus's new allocator remains
the default in this release. If you experience problems in building
or running, give configure the `--disable-mc-alloc' option and
rebuild.
This is the development line. The current series started with XEmacs 21.5.0
(an alias for XEmacs 21.4.0 "Solid Vapor", the first release in the current
stable line). 21.5 is the code base for introduction of major new subsystems
and fixes to design bugs that experience shows will introduce instability.
So far the main effort has been on improved support for Unicode, updates to
the build infrastructure, and development of new features in memory allocation.

I don't want to add files to the dump. I want to preload all lisp
components I regularly use. So, I want to add code to an existing lisp
image.
This kind of preloading is common for all not-just-for-fun lisp
implementations, for instance all major common lisp implementations have
a facility to dump the image. They have the same problem, loading all
libraries/components simply takes too long, even when it's
native/bytecode already.
When you look at

it seems that the FSF emacs world also follows this path.

I already spotted that, but I can't use the require directive
here. Probably dumped-lisp.el works, but actually I think redumping is
much nicer.
Still, not having any pdump_root_lisp_objects is clearly a bug.
Naive approach: Is it feasable to use the root list as it was at the
time the original dump was made, or do we have to reinitialize it?

I really should have tried C-h a dired.*bug RET first. My bad.
In order to find a maintainer address I was in fact looking for dired
documentation first. To my surprise, there are no info files in the
XEmacs package! How comes?

[Bug: 21.5-b18] Xemacs window shrinks on startup

Dear Bug Team!
When Xemacs starts up, the window shrinks vertically to about 10
columns in width. The only way to prevent this is to startup with the
'-vanilla' option, but this prevents the init.el file from being
loaded. It is impossible to identify what is doing this.

[Bug: 21.4.12] html file

Dear Bug Team!
I have a simple html file with a <table> containing 12 <TR> with 5 <TD>
per line.
I wrote this file last year with version 21.1 of XEmacs and it works well.
When I want to open this file now with version 21.4 there is a problem
during the preparation of the file and XEmacs closes the window and exits.
I can still open the file with V21.1 on another CPU and with V21.4 after
changing the name to squeeze the html mode.
May be it is only an XEmacs initialisation problem... but the local
support in my lab did not know !

A cleartool describe command seems to hang.
Try something close to this command at a DOS prompt:
cleartool desc -fmt "%m%f%Rf"%Sn%PSn%On%u%Nd%[slink_text]p\n%c" /asc/your_file.v
clearcase-fprop-read-properties
seems to hang.
