Problems with sysdep.c (xemacs-21.4.13) 18 years, 7 months

Hi, I'm trying to install xemacs on my linux computer. I'm one of the developers of ESS (Emacs Speaks Statistics), http://ESS.r-project.org/ which we have been developing for (too :-) many years and kept working for GNU emacs and Xemacs. One part of ESS is an "inferior" mode very similar to the one initiated by "M-x shell", and based on comint as that one; since the most important ones of the "statistics that ESS speaks" are S-plus and R; nowadays, one of the main applications of ESS is its use as "UI" for R (aka "GNU S") the free statistical language system in use in quite a few places by probably 100'000s of users. --> http://www.R-project.org/ Anyway back to the bug: We use completion via [TAB] and have (comint-replace-by-expanded-filename) as one of the functions in the 'comint-dynamic-complete-functions list. Unfortunately (comint-replace-by-expanded-filename) seems broken: E.g., using M-x shell, type "cd ~/" and then instead of [TAB], do M-: (comint-replace-by-expanded-filename) it does not work, but you get the (error?) message "last thing matched was not a buffer" Our ESS users have been complaining about getting this message, and I have no demonstrated that one gets it because (comint-replace-by-expanded-filename) seems not work as it should. [Bug: 21.4.17] comint-replace-by-expanded-filename 18 years, 7 months

I'm one of the developers of ESS (Emacs Speaks Statistics), http://ESS.r-project.org/ which we have been developing for (too :-) many years and kept working for GNU emacs and Xemacs. One part of ESS is an "inferior" mode very similar to the one initiated by "M-x shell", and based on comint as that one; since the most important ones of the "statistics that ESS speaks" are S-plus and R; nowadays, one of the main applications of ESS is its use as "UI" for R (aka "GNU S") the free statistical language system in use in quite a few places by probably 100'000s of users. --> http://www.R-project.org/ Anyway back to the bug: We use completion via [TAB] and have (comint-replace-by-expanded-filename) as one of the functions in the 'comint-dynamic-complete-functions list. Unfortunately (comint-replace-by-expanded-filename) seems broken: E.g., using M-x shell, type "cd ~/" and then instead of [TAB], do M-: (comint-replace-by-expanded-filename) it does not work, but you get the (error?) message "last thing matched was not a buffer" Our ESS users have been complaining about getting this message, and I have no demonstrated that one gets it because (comint-replace-by-expanded-filename) seems not work as it should.
