[Bug: 21.4.12] Deadlock with X?

Dear Bug Team!
I've noticing occasional deadlocks between XEmacs and the X server.
Every time I can remember it happending I've had gdb-mode running in a
buffer (though I'm usually not actively accessing that buffer). It
may be correlated with starting a second frame on that same process.
An strace of the running process shows it hanging on a select of the
unix socket that corresponds to the X server.
I've found this:

which seems related, but as you can tell by the data below I'm running
21.4.12 (which supposedly has things much better than before).
I'm very interested in having this problem fixed, but if there's a
workaround to break the deadlock, I'd love to hear about that, too.
Also, if there's reason to believe that 21.5.x is less prone to this
bug, I'd considering using that branch.
Finally, if you have instructions on how better to reproduce the old
bug, I'm happy to work with you to investigate further.

Hi,
First I compiled XEmacs 21.5 (beta9) with this option:
> --prefix=/usr/local --with-sound=no --with-mule --error-checking=none
and all works great. But then I tried to use the new external widget function
and compiled with:
> --prefix=/usr/local --with-sound=no --with-mule --error-checking=none --external-widget
Since then I get this error message if I close a xemacs.:

But I couldn't find the place where xemacs places the core file. Do I need to
activate the core-file ability before?

[Bug: 21.4.8] mh-e 1.23 not correctly byte-compiled

Dear Bug Team!
When using any of the modes in mh-e which are supposed to get their own
toolbar, the mode initialization fails. After searching long and hard I
found the problem: The file mh-xemacs-icons.el is not correctly
byte-compiled. The file contains the icons that mh-e uses for the
toolbar. Each icon definition uses the code
(mh-funcall-if-exists toolbar-make-button-list ...)
which will call the function toolbar-make-button-list if it exists and
nil otherwise. Somehow, when the file was byte-compiled, the function
toolbar-make-button-list did not exist, so all icon variables ended up
as nil. This caused the toolbar initialization and hence the mode
initialization to fail.
Recompiling the file solved the problem.

[Bug: 21.4.13] Printing discrepancy in pull-downs / toolbar

Dear Bug Team!
In 21.4.13, which I just installed, the toolbar printing
function and the
pull-down printing functions are different. Under my vanilla
install in
Windows 2000, the former yields an error, while the latter
prints something
(albeit in a format I don't like).
The former seems to be bound to a function
"toolbar-print-buffer", while the
latter is bound to "generic-print-buffer". Probably these gui
items should be
bound to the same thing.

[Bug: 21.5-b14] entering comment-region command invalidates the region

Dear Bug Team!
It used to be possible to call comment-region interactively, after
setting mark and moving point. No longer: I can still select the
region (it shows with a different background color) and press M-x, but
when I then press 'c', the region vanishes and the command complaints
that "The region is not active now". I think the selected region
should be preserved when focus switches to the minibuffer.

[Bug: 21.5-b14] Ctrl-o and metakey weirdness in TTY

Dear Bug Team!
Several months ago I reported that I couldn't input 'C-o' at all in
XEmacs running in tty. Today I noticed some additional behavior
related to that.
When I'm using 'TERM=xterm' or 'TERM=vt100', if I immediately type
'ESC' or meta+something just after XEmacs starts, I can use 'C-o' as
usual. On the other hand, if I type other keys such as 'C-n', I
cannot input 'C-o' at all (XEmacs ignores it). Additionally, hitting
meta+something is only interpreted as 'ESC'. The minibuffer only
shows 'ESC -' when I hit 'M-x'.
When I'm using 'TERM=kterm', this method doesn't work from the
beginning. So I can't input 'C-o' at all and the meta key doesn't
work correctly.
I feel the problem is somewhat similar to the previous 'LFD' problem.
There might be another automatic code detection problem for tty input.
Any ideas?

Please find attached a beta version of igrep.el that provides menu bar
support for Emacs and XEmacs via easymenu.el (see igrep-easy-menu). It
also supports customization via defgroup/defcustom, and directories with
spaces and/or wildcards via shell-quote-wildcard-pattern.

The issue with
<http://list-archive.xemacs.org/xemacs-patches/200304/msg00017.html>
is still there. The infinite loop has been fixed, but the font-locking
doesn't work properly. At least javadoc-comments are not shown with
correct color in jde-mode. Also that patch does fix it with the cvs
head.
