It's a "fug", or maybe a "beature". The function bound to that menu item is doing what it is documented to do, which is installing the definition into the existing global keymap. At that point it becomes anonymous, and the only way to save your new binding is to save the whole map, which you don't want to do (you'll essentially freeze your keymap in place, and miss any future improvements, and possibly overwrite bindings from new packages etc). I think that anything that is invoked from that menu _should_ be savable, so I'll put the issue in the queue as a feature request. I got my firewall back online (new power supply) and I can do useful work on my home machine again. [Bug: 21.4.13] Refresh issues on XP under cygwin 20 years, 7 months

It seems that any functions that trigger a command external to xemacs cause the display refresh to stop working. This is very reproducable on my system, I've reproduced it with M-x shell and also trying to use the JDEbug (java debugger) mode. No actions I have taken will allow the window to be refreshed, minimize, maximize don't work, my only recourse is to kill the xemacs process. I've also installed the Native xemacs via Netinstall and it works just fine, it's version string is below. Any way to debug or provide data for problems with Cygwin 1.5.x and XEmacs? 20 years, 7 months

So it appears that there are major problems with Cygwin 1.5.x and XEmacs. Is there anyone who can work with Cygwin people to debug or provide information about what might be happening? I've never set up to do any real debugging of the XEmacs build, except somewhat at the elisp level. As there's no practical way to obtain an "old" version of Cygwin (like 1.3.22, the last one that worked for me), I'm pretty much dead in the water until I can get this resolved. Fortunately, I'm only having this problem on a new box I'm setting up, and my other box still has 1.3.22 on it. -- =================================================================== David M.
