Hi,
after opening a dired buffer in my (beta, mule-enabled) XEmacs, I regularly
(not always, though - the problem isn't really reproducible) get a "No file
on this line" error when trying to save some other file. Following a
suggestion from xemacs-beta, I set debug-on-error and got the attached
backtrace.
Why is dired interfering with the file save, and how do I stop it?

[Bug: 21.4.14] Crash (VM and HTML mode?)

Dear Bug Team!
I had several crashes, which happened while I was using VM and editing a file
in HTML mode in a different frame. I was also using gnuclient to open the new
frames. I could not reproduce the bug systematically, although it did hit me
several times.
Sadly I can't get a C stack trace, since when I run gdb on any of the cores, it
gives me the following error, and then crashes itself :(
Program terminated with signal 6, Abort trap.
Dwarf Error: Cannot find referent at offset 506.
(gdb) where
zsh: segmentation fault (core dumped) gdb `which xemacs` xemacs-21.4.14.core
I guess without that info, there's not much that can be done about it. If I
can get more info (repro steps or a C stack trace), I'll submit another
report.

Dear Bug Team!
I run 21.1.12 at work, not by choice. This is what our admins have set
up here and I think this is from some old FreeBSD package. But I use a
personal copy of all packages, so that I can atleast keep packages up
to date. Recently I upated Dired, to package version 1.14. With this
upgrade, M-x dired no longer works with 21.1.12. At home I run 21.5.x
and everything is cool there. There seems to be some sort of backward
compatibility problem.
When I run M-x dired (or C-x d) and enter the directory, I get the
following error and dired just stops. No directory, nothing.
Wrong number of arguments: #<compiled-function (&optional buffer-or-string from to flags) "...(11)" [mapcar-extents identity nil buffer-or-string from to flags] 7 664556>, 5
After edebug-ing around for sometime (which was another weird
experience; fascinating debugger), I finally found that
dired-xemacs.el uses extent-list with 5 arguments, in
dired-set-text-properties, dired-maybe-filename-start and
dired-maybe-filename-end but extent-list in 21.1.12 takes only 4
arguments. It looks like newer versions of XEmacs have extent-list
taking 6 arguments:

I am filing this bug in the assumption that packages are meant to be
backward compatible, but if that assumption is not valid or if 21.1.12
is not a supported version anymore, then send this bug to /dev/null
and I wouldnt mind. I have been asking my sysadmins to upgrade XEmacs
for months now but given the slim chance of that actually happening,
is there any reason I shouldnt be using extent-list and mapcar-extents
from the beta like I am doing now?

Dear Bug Team!
The efs package apparently doesn't like certain kinds of FTP servers.
For example, when trying to access a remote file located on an IRIX
6.5.19f server, I get the following errors:
(1) (error/warning) Error in process filter: (error Unable to identify server code.)
(2) (error/warning) Error in process filter: (ftp-error FTP Error: DIR failed: 229 Entering Extended Passive Mode (|||40487|))
(3) (error/warning) Error in process filter: (error Unable to identify server code.)

I'm not sure if this is the proper fix but I've worked around the

[Bug: 21.4.14] completion problem in c++-mode

Hello,
c++-mode seems to misinterpret statements like
| if (c<0 || c>99)
as some kind of template specification. With enabled syntax-highlighting
and completion mode, this will lead to severe confusion of the highlighting
system.
E.g. when a file 'foo.cc' contains
int main()
{
if (c<0 || c>99) {}
}
I can reproduce it with:
| $ xemacs -vanilla
| M-x load-library<CR>completion
| select 'Options -> Syntax Highlighting -> In This Buffer' in the menu
| C-x C-f foo.cc
| press 'C-f' subsequently until the '0' will be reached (from 'c<0')
Now, I get:
| (1) (error/warning) Error in `pre-command-hook' (setting hook to nil): (error Containing expression ends prematurely)
The stack-trace is

| symbol-under-point()
| symbol-under-or-before-point()

| completion-before-command()
It is impossible to insert certain characters (e.g. '=' or ';') here;
with my other settings (sorry, I do not know a minimal setup), the
entire paren-highlighting breaks (expressions keep marked forever).
I am using latest package set (cc-mode 1.40).
