bug: eshell doesn't know about cygwin

On a Cygwin XEmacs, eshell-binary-suffixes defaults to '("") when it
should be '(".exe" ".com" ".bat" ".cmd" "").
As a result an eshell user in a Cygwin XEmacs must use the full
filename of an external command, e.g. foo.exe
This inline predicate:
(defsubst eshell-under-windows-p ()
"Return non-nil if we are running under MS-DOS/Windows."
(memq system-type '(ms-dos windows-nt)))
returns nil in Cygwin. It would be easy to include the value of
system-type for a Cygwin build in this test, but that's not the right
thing. It's probably the case that eshell should treat a Cygwin build
as Unix sometimes and Windows others.

Dear Bug Team!
Package listing broke somehow on my installation - when I select
Tools|Packages|List and Install, XEmacs seems to connect to the remote
server (I tried a couple), but then it doesn't download
anything... The last message in the minibuffer is something like
Package-get database file `/anonymous＠ftp.eunet.ie:/mirrors/ftp.xemacs.org/pub/xemacs/packages/package-index.LATEST.gpg' not readable
BTW it's a different server than in "Recent messages" below because
it's from a different invocation of XEmacs - the message is too long
for my minibuffer and it took me a few tries to read it...

cannot snarf eshell package from CVS

doesn't work for me:
cvswrapper server: cannot find module `eshell' - ignored
cvs [checkout aborted]: cannot expand modules
but
cvs -z3 -d :pserver:cvs＠cvs.xemacs.org:/pack/xemacscvs checkout name
seems to work for all other packages I have tried.

Hi,
I have seen this problem for a while (and failed to report it. Now it
is time for that.)
I guess it is mule related. The file tex-jp.el seems like a file that
a non-mule XEmacs shouldn't see anyway. I don't know how to debug this
anyway.

is present in the mule-sumo tarball. Sumo tarballs should not demand
a gamma version.

I just tried the current CVS version again, and it seems as though the
problem of xemacs using a significant amount of ram is still
there. (i.e. xemacs -vanilla uses 50M RSS)
btw, there are a LOT of:
warning: comparison is always true due to limited range of data type
which is pretty concerning. I'll see if I can take a look at this
tonight.
