Dear Bug Team!
I don't exit GNUS and XEmacs very often, but whenever I do, I find that XEmacs
will delay for a very long time exiting GNUS, and delay indefinitely exiting
XEmacs.
I use a virtual window manager on Win2k (sdesk). I have my main XEmacs window
in one workspace, and my GNUS window in another.
Very often, when I exit GNUS (with "q"), the window will go away, but I'll
notice that XEmacs is using all available CPU. I can click on the sdesk panner
to go to the other workspace with the main XEmacs window, but it doesn't
actually complete that move for close to a minute after that.
When I'm down to my main XEmacs window, and I use "save-buffers-kill-emacs" to
exit, the window will go away, seemingly ending the XEmacs session. However,
when I look at the running processes, I see xemacs still there, using all
available CPU. I've tried letting it run like that for several minutes, but
it's never finished. I almost always have to kill the process. I don't know
if it's ever completed.
Both of these symptoms almost always happen every time I exit GNUS and XEmacs,
although I usually run for quite a while (days) before exiting either. I
haven't tried short session tests of this.
I know that there's been some discussion about whether there's particular
problems with XEmacs in VWMs. That could be related to this.

Dear Bug Team!
The problem is exposed when cc-mode tries to indent
this test C++ text:
void A::a()
{
int a;
/// comment
int b;
}
The definition of second variable is indented incorrectly because of
/// comment line. Set the pointer on beginning of line "int b;"
and execute (forward-comment -1), the pointer moves to the second '/',
instead of the first. This leads to cc-mode incorrect behavior.

EFS 1.20pre1 bug: set ls switches for efs only?

not a bug, really, but I have my dired switches set to "-abl", but the ftp
I'm connecting to:
denmark% ftp ftp194.pair.com
Connected to isris.pair.com.
220 ftp194.pair.com NcFTPd Server (licensed copy) ready.
Name (ftp194.pair.com:turner): anonymous
331 Guest login ok, send your complete e-mail address as password.
only allows a subset of ls switches, so when I connect with efs I see:
ftp> ls -abl
200 PORT command successful.
504 Only ls flags accepted are -C, -F, -l, -t, -r, -1, -S, -L, -R, and -p.
now I could easily live without the -b option, but they don't even allow
-a, which I definitely want for normal dired buffers
I looked around in the efs customize options but didn't see a way to set ls
switches specifically for efs
clearly the remote system is broken, but what's the best way to work around
it, other than setting dired's ls switches for this machine?

redisplay crash again

i've seen this before. symptoms are weirdness in the way it displays
lines, with lines blank or in the wrong places, and confusion about
where the cursor is.
i'm prepared to put in some work writing a sledgehammer function if
someone can give me an overview of the redisplay structures, with an eye
towards what should always be consistent with what.

open-network-stream is slow on non-existing Windows sockets

There's some new code in VM that creates an ssh tunnel. Before doing
this it decides on a random socket to use, then tests to see if that
socket is already bound to something else by using open-network-stream.
The expectation is that the socket *won't* be bound and you'll get
bounced back right away; Kyle says the call returns right away on his
OpenBSD box, but on my Win98 and Win2000 machines it's kinda slow --
about 1.5 seconds on the Win98 machine, which is a 800mHz pIII.
So, he suggested I post this here.
Here's the function I profiled on Win98 to get the 1.5 second number:

Compilation of xemacs under Darwin-powerpc-OS 10 fails

I tried to compile xemacs on a Macintosh Powerbook running Os
10.1.3 with Darwin 1.4 -something and XFree 4.0.2
installed. Everything compiled fine, but cinfigure could not find
a machnie description for the operating system. Does one exist?
I am running Gnu emacs 21.1 on the machine, which came with the
Darwin distro.
If no description is available, I'd be willing to try writing one.
