21.4.9 is ready to go ... but Motif problems; please test

21.4.9, which has a number of important fixes in it, is just about
ready to go. However, in the process of building the release I
discovered that a Motif build crashes immediately (Debian Linux "sid",
XFree86 4.1.0, LessTif 0.93.36)---about 10 frames deep in Motif, as
usual.
I would really appreciate reports of builds with Motif (vendor,
OpenMotif, or LessTif) on all platforms. I'm hoping this is limited
to Linux/LessTif.
Bonus brownie points, nay, a gold star, to anyone with a debug build
of LessTif who can track this bug down.

[PATCH 21.4] Mixed signed/unsigned operations

In the thread on the 21.4.9 release candidate, some signed/unsigned
operations were mentioned. Most turned out to be easy to fix. Here is
the patch. I'm sending this from the patched XEmacs. There are still
warnings from ccl_driver in mule-ccl.c. There are two signed variables,
i and j. They are compared like this:
if ((unsigned int)i < j)
Why the cast? I don't understand what is going on well enough to touch
it. Except for those, the only other warnings in my (Linux) build were
from unused parameters, missing initializers, and switch statements that
do not handle every possible case. Something similar may be necessary
for 21.5, but this patch does not apply cleanly.

I just tried rebuilding xemacs-21.4.8 (which builds perfectly under gcc-2.95.3-9) under
gcc-3.1.1-4 / cygwin-1.3.12-4 and got the following errors leaving behind an emacs.exe with 0 bytes.
Any hints ??

enable-local-eval doesn't work under XP, no matter the setting, because
(user-uid) appears to always return zero, whether or not the user in
question is an administrator. (on my box (user-uid) returns 0 for
guest.)
I don't think it should return 0 on Windows generally, although I can
see doing so for Administrator(s), and I can accept that. However it's
bogus that it does so for peons.
It'd be really nice if the reason was better in these cases, and should
mention it's blowing me off because I'm root, not because the
appropriate config variable is set wrong.

This probably doesn't affect anyone but me, and it doesn't even affect
me all that much. Try passing LONG_MIN to long_to_string. You get back
"-0". It's not a big deal. It just happened to come up while trying to
dump some info out of a module under development. It's not like you can
actually represent LONG_MIN in Lisp....
Is it worth the trouble of pointing this out in a comment in print.c?
I'm pretty sure it isn't worth fixing.

I think this is most likely wrong. The Internals manual says to
include config.h before _anything_ else, _including_ system includes.
I won't veto, because I don't know what the right fix is. My guess is
that some fiddling should be done in either config.h itself (probably
requiring some screwing with configure.in, too) or in the s&m files.
