XmVERSION-sensitive unresolved symbols in lwlib-Xm.c 20 years, 10 months

When building xemacs-21.5 I got some unresolved symbols when linking temacs, originating in lwlib-Xm.c. For example xmComboBoxWidgetClass. It turns out that these are all dependent on XmVERSION > 1, and if I added #define XmVERSION 1 to the file (after including headers) the problem went away. Perhaps this is a brokenness of my system (SunOS 5.8) in that the shared library does not match the header files. But anyway, perhaps there could be an autoconf test that tries to compile and link a small program containing #if defined (LWLIB_WIDGETS_MOTIF) && XmVERSION > 1 foo = xmComboBoxWidgetClass; #endif and if this fails, assumes that XmVERSION == 1 despite what the system headers may say. -- Ed Avis <ed.avis(a)kbcfp.com>

[Bug: 21.4.12] font size of special characters 20 years, 10 months

Dear Bug Team! my xemacs 21.4 on linux shows the behavour of not changing the font size of spezial characters of the german language. I have this behavour in every font.The others characters are fine. It doesn't looks nice if you can see the whole text in, let's say 15pt with some characters in 12pt. How can I fix this? Thank you! problem with auctex and preview-latex under w9x 20 years, 10 months

Hi David, AUC-TeX is running external processes using "command.com /c" or "cmd.exe /c" whatever the SHELL env. var is set to. But under w9x, command.com has a command line of limited length : 128 chars, which prevents preview-latex to run under w98 for example. If those programs were launched by themselves rather than by the command interpretor, the problem would vanish. I'm not sure this problem is specific to AUC-TeX, so I cc'ed the xemacs beta list. I wonder if we should bother at all about these old (and not supported anymore) windows version, but on the other hand, I see no point in running those programs through a command interpretor: why not running them directly ? -- Fabrice

I'm in the middle of the sad experience of talking someone who had never used emacs before (and is new to Unix as well) through the process of: - launch xemacs - open an html file - make a trivial edit (Her first comment: "good lord that splash screen is hidious!") After getting past the horror that is the File/Open dialog ("oh, don't ever use that, it's an abomination") the next roadblock she had to contend with was the HTML mode you are using by default. "Why is it asking me for my email address? I just want to edit a file!" "Why does it keep opening a new file that says 'External entity not found'? Gaah, help!" I'm frankly stunned that she hasn't given up yet. That SGML mode is a total nightmare. Please please please turn it off by default! Even fundamental-mode is better than this for editing HTML. For the record, this is what I use, and I think the default HTML mode should do *no more than this* by default. If people want a bondage-and-discipline mode with whacked out keybindings, then let them load it explicitly. http://www.jwz.org/hacks/jwz-html-mode.el (Then, of course, it got even worse, because she's doing this on OSX, and all the existing HTML files she wants to edit use ^M as a line ending. Please describe as succinctly as possible: - What happened. Whenever I load Xemacs, it seems to run fine, however, if I try to preform many common fuctions, it gives the following error: Symbol's function definition is void: globally-declare-fboundp (and of course it does nothing else). - What do I expect it do? virtually any command, but to name a few: when I try to open the "info: contents" page, when I try to download the newest packages, When I try to fun some of the debug commands, or any number of other functions. - Precisely what you were doing at the time...I just select the command off of drop down menu. Usually in a new file, but also in some old files.
