Wrong type of error thrown from scan-lists 20 years, 11 months

XEmacs 21.4.12: The errors thrown by `scan-lists' is of type `error' whereas I expected them to be of some more specific subclass like `syntax-error'. Test case: Start xemacs -q -no-site-file. Evaluate (condition-case nil (scan-lists 0 -1 -1) (syntax-error nil)) I expected this to return nil, but it throws an error.

[Bug: 21.4.11] Unable to connect to localhost 20 years, 11 months

When I run allegro with xemacs on my unix box I don't have any problems, but when I use it on my pc after the first time it goes into the debugger it brings up a background interaction buffer that doesn't have as much useful information. XEMACS crash 20 years, 11 months

Here is a problem I had with the Xemacs editor. I was editing a file (named fgre_90c.e), then from the "Edit" menu I selected the "find" button. A small window opened, and I entered there the word for which I was looking. After finding a few instances of this word (there were more instances in the file, but I did not need to get them), I wanted to close this "find" window, so I pressed "Cancel". The result was that the whole "xemacs" window disappeared. Buffer corruption with jka-compr.el and revert-buffer 20 years, 11 months

In GNU Emacs 21.3.2 and XEmacs 21.4.12 (and lots of earlier versions of each, apparently, such as GNU Emacs 20.7), put the following code into jka-compr-revert-bug.el: --------8<---------8<-------- CUT HERE --------8<---------8<-------- (shell-command "echo 'aaa' | gzip > /tmp/aa.gz") (shell-command "echo 'b' | gzip > /tmp/b.gz") (auto-compression-mode 1) (find-file "/tmp/aa.gz") (shell-command "cp /tmp/b.gz /tmp/aa.gz") (revert-buffer t t) --------8<---------8<-------- CUT HERE --------8<---------8<-------- Now do: (x)emacs -q --no-site-file -l jka-compr-revert-bug.el You probably have a buffer that looks like --------8<---------8<-------- CUT HERE --------8<---------8<-------- b a --------8<---------8<-------- CUT HERE --------8<---------8<-------- Yikes! It should just contain a 'b'! This only seems to happen if the original file is at least 2 characters longer than the new file. The underlying file is not changed but, when you edit and save, the corruption obviously makes its way into the saved file. I've had a look at revert-buffer and nothing jumps out. I've also had a look at jka-compr.el and I've run away screaming... I suspect it would be a lot simpler without all that coding system stuff... :-) peace & happiness, martin

Getting "cleartool" prompts to work in Cygwin/XEmacs 20 years, 11 months

My version is: "21.4 (patch 11) \"Native Windows TTY Support (Windows)\" XEmacs Lucid" The "cleartool" application (part of ClearCase) will often present question prompts in normal operation, to confirm certain operations. When I execute these commands in a DOS box, it works fine. However, when I execute this in Bash inside Cygwin/XEmacs, at the point where it would issue the prompt, it just sits there doing nothing. If I then press Return, it immediately emits the prompt message, and then prints (approximately) "Process shell finished", which effectively kills the shell. Is there a strategy I can use to get this to work properly in Bash inside Cygwin/XEmacs?

I've built the sasl very recently, and although there's no substantial changes to the code, some things in the Makefile have been updated, causing this discrepancy between the actual package size and the one setup is expecting. I've changed the configuration file on ftp.xemacs.org to match the current situation, so you might retry. Also, locally, I build a new version of the package and put it into the pre-release directory. Thanks for the heads up! norbert.
