Hi,
I'm not sure if the following problem exists also in the current beta version
of the xemacs, but it exists at least in the version 21.4 (patch 8).
Bug (problem) description:
XEmacs 21.4 (patch 8)
SuSE Linux 8.1 with KDE 3.x
LANG=de_DE＠euro
When I select a string with german (Umlaute) characters (äöüÄÖÜß)
with the mouse in a xterm (or konqueror, mozilla, ...) and paste it
in the XEmacs, I'll get a string, which looks like ^[...iso8859-15^Bäöü,
which is very annoying.
Workaround:
I've written a workaround (look at the attached file)
to fix it. I know it's not the real fix for this problem, but it works for
me. Feel free, to put it in your distribution, if no one has fixed the real
problem in the next XEmacs version.

PS: iso8859-15 is a new version of iso8859-1. I think most people in
europe use or will use these fonts at least caused by the euro
sign in these fonts.
PPS: It works in the GNU Emacs too.

JDE mode not fontifying correctly; syntax table problems? (21.5.11)

Is anyone else noticing that JDE mode has started behaving strangely?
First there was the infinite lazy-lock fontifying hang I submitted a
patch for
(http://list-archive.xemacs.org/xemacs-patches/200304/msg00057.html),
which puzzles me because that code doesn't seem to have changed in some
time and so should have exhibited similar behavior for many previous
versions. Now it is not handling comments properly, neither fontifying
them as comments nor treating them as such for indentation purposes. I
thought maybe it had to do with the syntax table.
jde-mode-syntax-table is simply #(char-table type syntax data (?_ 2))
while java-mode-syntax-table is much richer, and does the right thing.
If I (setq jde-mode-syntax-table java-mode-syntax-table), everything is
much happier. I think something is wrong with jde-mode's derivation
from java-mode.
I can start taking a look into this, but I don't have much time right
now and it will involve much learning on my part to understand what's
going on, so I'm asking in hopes that someone here already understands
this code and can quickly understand what is happening....

Sudden crash when loading a file

Dear XEmacs developers, I just got a crash of xemacs-21.5.9 (running Solaris
8). Following the instructions, here is the stack trace. I think I was just
about to type in a character or editing a file (don't quite remember) after
an approx. 10 minutes break. At least it was nothing special I tried to do.
Maybe the info below helps you to fix a bug of the superb xemacs (my ultimate

In the ilisp package there is a file "comint-v18.el" which provides
itself as 'comint'. (there is already a comint.el provided as 'comint'
in the xemacs-base package)
The filename suggests to me that this file is designed for very old
emacsen (v18). Seeing as though we only support back to XEmacs 21.1
in the packages (eventually to be 21.4), is there any reason why this
file shouldn't just be removed from the package?

The point of XEmacs Patches is to record _all_ patches.
If you want to save bandwidth or something (I know that not everybody
has a wide pipe), at least CVS tag before and after and provide a way
to reproduce the exact patch.
This is part of what everybody's on Ben about; we all have to
contribute, though.
