21.4.3 painting slowness 22 years, 9 months

I actually noticed this with 21.4.1 as well. Also, this may not have always been a problem. It may have started recently; I only gradually became aware of it. Basically, xemacs is slow to respond to x events. I can move my mouse around inside the window and peg my cpu. Expose events take several seconds to finish. Highlighting in the occur buffer always lags my mouse. The slowness doesn't occur until I load cc-mode. For instance, I have a seperate xemacs process dedicated to Gnus. That xemacs never gets "slow". I'm not sure what all is relevant information to give. I'm running a fairly up-to-date debian woody system. I did the configure --with-msw=no --with-athena=3d --with-png --with-jpeg --with-tiff. I have to do the --with-msw=no because I have wine installed and xemacs always tries to compile the win32 version. I think debian has some strange policy about the xaw stuff. Bug with `scan-sexps' / syntax tables in XEmacs-21.4.2 22 years, 9 months

Bring up a java-mode (or JDE) buffer and insert this into it: public class Foo { class Bar // foo. { class Baz { /* foo. */ int flobble (String foo) { } } } } Note that the second closing parenthesis is believed (by, for instance, `(goto-char (scan-sexps (point) -1))') to match the very first open parenthesis, and that deleting either of the comments corrects this misbehaviour. Am I right that this can only reasonably be interpreted as a bug in the XEmacs C core, or is it something completely different? -- `I'm not sure whether libtool is an existence proof that you _can_ write a shell script that handles its arguments correctly, or a demonstration that you may try but you are doomed to failure.' -- Zack Weinberg

printing on windows 22 years, 9 months

with 21.4.3, on w98, I'm able to print. Four comments: ================ First of all: (dotimes (i 100) (insert " Thankyou") (sit-for 0.1)) ================ It works great. Is there any reason to have a non functional print-buffer hanging around? basically, shouldn't you smash print-buffer on windows: (when (eq system-type 'windows-nt) (fset 'print-buffer 'generic-print-buffer)) ================ When you print a file, you probably want to ignore the background color (or make it an option to ignore). Otherwise, a lot of ink gets used printing. I advised generic-print-buffer to temporarily set the background color to white for printing. In XEmacs 21.4 (patch 3) "Academic Rigor" [Lucid] (i586-pc-win32) of Thu May 17 2001 on SHALOM configured using `configure UNKNOWN' Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug and the precise symptoms of the bug: Okay, once you install XEmacs using the Netinstaller on Win32, how do you uninstall it? I don't see it in Add/Remove Programs and the Netinstaller itself doesn't seem to have an Uninstall section. Do I have to go edit the registry and delete all the files by hand? p.s. The Netinstaller creates a Gnu menu section in Start/Programs whereas NTEmacs creates a "Gnu Emacs" menu item -- they should either agree or disagree (they shouldn't almost agree). However, this can lead to files being entered with a combination of both which can be disconcerting to new people. Emacs takes the approach of changing the entered filename during minibuffer-complete-word so that all the slashes agree with each other. Perhaps XEmacs should do the same? So, I notice that there is list-faces-display and list-colors-display (very nice), but there is no list-fonts-display. Why? I wrote one that works pretty well for windows.
