Here is a problem which has long troubled me with XEmacs and is still present
in 21.5. Subprocesses which produce a lot of output cause XEmacs to miss
interrupt signals, or at least, take a very long time to react to them and
pass to the subprocess.
Compare this test in XEmacs 21.5 (or earlier) and any version of GNU Emacs:
M-x shell
yes RET
(the command "yes" prints y indefinitely to the terminal). Wait 30 secs or so
and try to interrupt the XEmacs shell with C-c C-c. The signal doesn't easily
get through. If, however, you hit C-c C-c soon after "yes" has started it is
interrupted successfully.
There is no problem in GNU Emacs, the signal gets passed quickly to the
subprocess.
I'm using Fedora Core 4/i386 but I think the problem exists on other Unices,
at least.
This is a real problem when writing code which communicates with subprocesses
that may go awry producing output indefinitely.

in my ~/.Xdefaults
how did it come that XEmacs initializes truetype fonts at 75 dpi?
for example: i have set in my .Xdefaults
XEmacs.default.attributeFont: mono:size=15:style=Roman
and this font is instantiated (?) like this (long line split)

what's funny it's that the fonts in the menubar and other widgets are
instantiated OK, e.g., sans:size=15 is instantiated at 24 pixel!
furthermore, i tried to specify explicitly dpi in the font
specification, like in:
XEmacs.default.attributeFont: mono:dpi=115:size=15:style=Roman
but fonts derived from the default are, again, instantiated against a
dpi=75 and as such they're much smaller than i intended

I can't figure out what's going on, but I'm pretty sure I haven't messed anything up during compilation. This is

It looks to me like it could be debug_p4(), which calls itself recursively
(which resets the global), then starts doing more output.

This patch saves a local copy of inhibit_.._operations on the stack, so
the behaviour is guaranteed to be consistant across the whole stack
frame lifetime of print_internal. Inconsistant behaviour results in an
unbind_to(specdepth = 0), which results in a crash..
Diffed against sjt-xft.

[Bug: 21.5-b22] xemacs xft cannot get a bold oblique face

Dear Bug Team!
while "xterm -fa mono:style=bold\ oblique" gives place to what i mean,
XEmacs shows an oblique font where i'm expecting a bold oblique one,
e.g., in the info-node face --- if you try to customize info-node
face, you'll see that custom thinks it's bold AND italic, but the
sample above is clearly italic/oblique, but sure it isn't any bold...

tramp itimer problem when using 'with-timeout' macro

Using tramp (rsync) gives a lot of annoying '(no-catch ...' or
'(void-handler...' messages when itimer's issued on behalf of
tramp (via 'with-timeout') fire, but the 'with-timeout' (catch
...) is no longer active.
itimer "with-timeout<5>" signaled: (void-function with-timeout-handler)
itimer "with-timeout<6>" signaled: (void-function with-timeout-handler)
itimer "with-timeout<7>" signaled: (void-function with-timeout-handler)
...
I think this is happening when something in BODY param of
'with-timeout' does an unexpected 'throw' apart from the
catch/throw setup by 'with-timeout' and thus jumps over the
'delete-itimer' call inside 'with-timeout'. This definitely
happens at process finish time.
This patch to 'with-timeout' macro seems to fix it:

Note you must byte-compile everything that uses 'with-timeout' after
loading the new macro definition. Ie: tramp.el, poe-xemacs.el,
