patcher always sees ChangeLog diffs

Hi!
I can't work with patcher on the package tree toplevel (other
directories work), because I always get the message that patcher is
seeing ChangeLog diffs (this can mean two things).
I even get them, if I delete the ChangeLog and cvs up it right before
I try to use patcher.
Any pointers?

Hi there,
we are both heavy XEmacs users starting XEmacs under various
platforms and conditions. Unfortunately executing XEmacs under Mac
OS X makes us almost sick all the time because of its unfortunate
appearence (especially of its fonts) compared to all the other OS X
applications.
So we dug out the former Xft patch of Vladimir Vukicevic
<http://list-archive.xemacs.org/xemacs-beta/200012/msg00089.html>
and revised it. (The Xft library, supported by XFree86, is a more
sophisticated font matching scheme that supports nice antialiased
fonts.) You can find the patch at

There are also some screenshots available on Matthias's site to get a
first impression:

If you wanna build XEmacs with Xft support,
- apply the patch to XEmacs CVS version,
- run autoconf, and
- `configure' with the new option `--with-xrender'.
Then just tell XEmacs to use a Xft font and you're all set! E. g. add
something like this to your ~/.Xdefaults:

Here's an overview how our patch differs from the original patch:
- we added primitive functions for accessing and modifying XFTPattern
structs on the Emacs Lisp level
- there are almost no pixel artifacts (but still some ... :-)
- we integrated Xft fonts into x-faces.el and font.el
- Xft and core fonts can be used in parallel. XLFD's (core font
patterns) and Xft font patterns are distiinguished by a regular
expression.
Please consider this patch a draft version. There a still some issues
and lots of things that can be improved. However, we're not familiar
enough with XEmacs' internals to cope with some of the problems, so
we're hoping you as the XEmacs gurus can help us to test our patch,
answer our questions, and maybe apply our patch to the HEAD later on... ;-)
Questions/TODOs:
- How do (x-)faces.el and font.el play together? We need some
enlightenment.
- TODO: Make fontmenu.el list available Xft fonts
- TODO: Fix Xft drawing with respect to Mule
- TODO: Enhance the performance on OS X, though it already rocks on
Linux and FreeBSD. ;-)
- What are x_font_instance_truename() and
x_font_instance_properties() in objects-x.c good for? (Apparently
never used)

I've just committed the next edition of Patcher. Lotsa nu stuff in dere.

Themes are named collections of options. They let you factor out settings and
share them across unrelated projects.

Tells Patcher that commands must be executed there, and not in the project's

Patcher sense.
*** New construct %N
It works along with %n, but is replaced with the project's name in the Patcher

when used as strings (not in files).
*** add subject line in fake mails
as they could be used to initialize the log messages.
*** avoid spurious blanks in automatically formatted log messages.
Also, don't put eol or eob newlines by default, since the log message could be
used in a string.

[Bug: 21.4.13] Infinite loop when trying to run font-lock-mode

Dear Bug Team!
On this build of XEmacs, I go into what appears to be an infinite loop
when I try to enter font-lock-mode. I can reproduce it very easily.
1) xemacs -vanilla
2) M-x font-lock-mode
At this point, the fontification progress bar will come up at the bottom
of the XEmacs window with the thumb at the left and flash forever as it
tries to fontify "scratch". Pressing Ctrl-C several times will fontify
the buffer and return control to the user. The bigger the buffer being
fontified, the more times you have to press Ctrl-C to get it to finish.
(One can also click the "Stop" button repeatedly and accomplish the same
thing.)
I have a very rudimentary knowledge of the debugger, but I did attempt to
trace the problem down. If you set a breakpoint at:
File: gutter-items.el
Function: raw-append-progress-feedback
you will see that it hangs up on this line:
(set-gutter-element-visible-p bottom-gutter-visible-p
'progress t frame)
Hope this is a simple fix.

A recent article on c.e.x. pointed out that Emacs has a mode that
highlights the line containing point, and wondered whether XEmacs had
such a thing. The Emacs version uses overlays, and an additional
argument to define-minor-mode that we don't have (should we?). I did a
quick port to use extents and work around the define-minor-mode
deficiency and posted the result to c.e.x. However, it wasn't a full
port, because Emacs can specify that an overlay is associated with a
particular window. We can't do that with extents, which are always
associated to a buffer or string. The result is that the Emacs version
can highlight different lines in the same buffer appearing in different
windows, but my version can't.
I tried to fix that deficiency, because I think this is cool and would
like to see it work on XEmacs. I'm attaching my first attempt, which is
also my first time using specifiers. It's kind of complex, but the
"local" mode seems to work. The "global" mode does not, however. Only
the original window gets a highlighted bar; other windows don't. Could
you specifier gurus out there check the code and see if I did anything
obviously wrong?

Previously, it was not in lazy-lock mode.
Enabling lazy-lock mode has no effect on the issue.
As soon as it attempts to fontify any part of the buffer, the status bar is
stuck indefinitely.

Do C-h m on any buffer that is fontified. You would see a list of all major
and minor modes that are active in that buffer.

do make-frame-on-display with any other display
then kill the remote frame
then open a few files for edition
xemacs simply quits with the message:
Error: Could not find per display information
No core, no dump no trace, nothing.
this bug is reproductible on 21.4.13 and 21.5.b11
