Dear Bug Team!
Here's a sample C++ file:

void foo()

}
Go to the definition of foo() and try to hit tab, or try to reindent.
The mode thinks there is a brace mismatch, but if you look you'll
see that there is no mismatch; blink-matching-open also sees each
matching brace if you do it at each closing brace.
If you move the opening brace of the MyClass definition to the
previous line, you have to go after the definition of foo() to
get the same error. Similar things happen if you relocate the
braces of hello() or change indentation by adding spaces.
This happens even without a init.el file.

Dear Bug Team!
As you can see, I'm using the CVS-version of XEmacs. I have bzip2ed my
jisyo-files for skk:
1008694 Nov 21 2001 SKK-JISYO.L.bz2
62118 Nov 22 2001 SKK-JISYO.M.bz2
120172 Nov 22 2001 SKK-JISYO.jinmei.bz2
When I try to open the "M" or "jinmei"-file, it works. But trying to
open the "L"-file causes XEmacs to hang until I kill the underlying
bzip2-process (which just does nothing).
When I visit-file SKK-JISYO.L.bz2, I get two processes:

I recently have been working at a small program, which makes FreeBSD's
"cdcontrol"-command accessible from within XEmacs, in order to add a
small cdplayer to my local setup and learn more elisp.
I heavily rely on that command-line tool and need to call it regularly
via `shell-command-to-string'. Letting my program run over night, I
found a pretty slow XEmacs the next morning, because lots of
*string-output*-buffers had been opened.
The problem seems to be in `with-output-to-string', which opens
temporary buffers, but instead of removing them, just deletes the
buffers' content.
I locally defined a substitute for `with-output-to-string', replacing
the last line of

Splitting packages

Ok, I'm willing to start slowly splitting packages into smaller, more
closely-related chunks. I've seen many messages about this saying that
people have not had time to do it in the past.
The first ones in my list would be splitting python, perl and ruby stuff
out from prog-modes, since these involve multiple files in a single-file
package.
I'm thinking about the naming of this kind of packages, and suggest
foo-support as the template. Like this:
ruby-support: ruby-mode.el* inf-ruby.el* rubydb3x.el* (not in CVS yet)
python-support: python-mode.el* pydoc*
perl-support: cperl-mode.el perl-mode.el
Maybe old-c-mode.el from prog-modes should also be moved to c-support.
Thoughts?

And, just for the record, you guys have free reign on anything in
'unsupported'. Consider all patches to the unsupported tree as
pre-approved[1]. If you want to submit patches to xemacs-patches
for unsupported, that's cool; if you don't want to, that's cool
too[2].

Looking for XEmacs developer to join mh-e

Hello XEmacs developers (and perhaps power users),
XEmacs ships with an old version of mh-e, and we collectively need to
fix that. :-)
The best solution is for an XEmacs developer (or a XEmacs power user who
knows elisp and XEmacs particulars) who uses mh-e to join us, the mh-e
crew, in developing mh-e. Such a person would make sure the CVS version
works correctly on XEmacs, and would patch as required and tell us what
we're doing wrong. There are a few odd jobs, such as making up suitable
icons for the XEmacs toolbar. This person would also need to sign the
FSF copyright papers.
Are you such a person?
If we can't find such a person, one of the current mh-e developers will
be selected at random for the job of packaging mh-e for XEmacs. I'm
kidding! One of the mh-e developers will volunteer, possibly me. But
I'd prefer to have an XEmacs expert do it.

I have found that when installing Xemacs on Windows all shortcuts and
file type info point to the cygwin version of the .exe. Instead of

If building with XFontSet support (--with-xfs), I think it would be neat
to also get *menubar*FontSet stuff in Emacs.ad enabled by default,
instead of *menubar*Font.
I don't know if this is a piece of cake to implement, if not, maybe a
line or two in the configure output that would advice the user to do
this manually would be nice.
RedHat builds --with-xfs, and below is the patch they (have to) apply to
Emacs.ad to get the menubars look nice.
