Dear Bug Team!
I have Info Auto Generate Directory set as:
Info Auto Generate Directory: * [Value Menu] always
But it doesn't work! If I have an empty file /usr/share/info/dir,
then none of the contents of /usr/share/info are listed when I do C-h
i. If I remove the empty file, then it works. Clearly, xemacs is not
ignoring the dir file regardless of the setting of Info Auto
Generate Directory.

On linux boxes there is often a "dir" file, but it's not always
up-to-date. It would be nice to have a custom variable that says to
ignore the dir file.

Dear Bug Team!
Very minor bug, but I thought your netinstaller maintainer might
want to know about it.
I started an upgrade from 21.4.7-1 to 21.4.8-3 using the Setup.exe
that came with 21.4.7-1 (no version number on Setup, sorry). I did
a download from Internet of the new packages. Setup exited saying
Download Complete. I upgraded my version of Setup.exe to
1.2.2.11.2.10 by downloading from the 21.4.8-3 page. I ran the new
Setup.exe, and selected install from local directory. I selected
the directory into which I had just downloaded the 21.4.8-3 files
(same directory that also held all of the old 21.4.7-1 packages), and
the netinstaller dumped a message saying something like this (sorry,
not the exact text):
setup.ini is older than last time you installed _cygwin_ Proceed?
This is probably a leftover error message from the port from cygwin.
Like I said, it's very minor. Thanks for a great piece of software!

I hope someone could help me with this. Tried to compile 21.5.8 on
cygwin and MSVC 6. Both attempts failed miserably. I am able to build
and install 21.4.7, 21.4.8 and 21.5.7.
Here are the problems:
on cygwin, I configured only with --with-mule=yes

Any insight? It appears that MSVC build leaves me with a xemacs.exe
executable that cannot open any files - all attempts on C-x C-f let me
enter the filename and then end with:

but I cannot open it.

I start xemacs with -q and -no-sitefile. Then I run
(require 'un-define)

After that, I try to load a file with latin1 characters encoded as
utf-8. XEmacs then segfaults...

Autoload cookies with derived modes?

There's something hairy about autoload cookies with derived modes. An
example of this would be php-mode.el from prog-modes. The version
currently in CVS doesn't work as it should out of the box, when doing a
"xemacs some_file.php" with it, I get:
Symbol's value as variable is void: php-font-lock-keywords-3
The solution of course is not to add autoload cookies to all
def(var|un)'s and the like. Adding (require 'php-mode) to init.el would
help, but it's not "out of the box".
One workaround is to put an autoload cookie into a dummy autoload,
instead of the derived mode. The patch below fixes php-mode for me, as
well as the sml-mode package from unsupported/scop, which after this
hack, is finally working in XEmacs :)
Maybe The Right Thing would be to "fix" derived.el? Anyway, I'll commit
this one unless someone tells me that it's horribly wrong and will break
when/if define-derived-mode works like a defun with autoload cookies.
Of course, better ideas/fixes are appreciated.

Extremely slow movment in buffers

Hi,
If I set scroll-conservatively to a large value say 1000, then load my
.emacs (for that matter any file), and try to execute beginning-of-buffer,
end-of-buffer and beginning-of-buffer, the third function takes about 4
seconds with the CPU usage going to 100%. It took me quite a while to
figure the cause for this trouble (I had to do a binary search on my
init.el file). I understand that this variable is kind of controversial and
there are no fixes at present. My questions:
1. Is this behaviour intended ?
2. Is there a way to tell XEmacs to scroll only line at a time to bring
back the text onto the screen, instead of recentering ? I read in a
message on this list from Kyle, which mentioned about the part where
XEmacs tries to read from the keyboard etc. That kind of matches up with
what I am seeing i.e if I set scroll-step to 1 and keep pressing C-n, I
get scrolling line at a time, till the buffer fills up with keystrokes.
After a while, the screen starts jumping half page at a time to recenter
the cursor. I tested it by pausing between presses of C-n, so that I
give time for XEmacs to catch up.
I am using XEmacs CVS on RedHat 7.3.
