Hi Stephen,
The following file when placed under
$(INSTALL_PATH)\XEmacs\XEmacs-$(VERSION)\i586-pc-win32\xemacs.exe.manifest
allows all the user interface elements to follow Windows XP's native form
controls (aka XP skin). This gives XEmacs on Windows XP native XP look and
feel. Can you please consider it for inclusion in the next release of
XEmacs ? I don't know the procedures for submitting a patch. I would assume
that this file should be hooked into the install target if using cygwin. I
don't how the netinstall works.
Comments, suggestions welcome.

Please do not redirect away from the mailing list. There's no
guarantee that the people who have responded most recently are the
ones to solve the problem, and there are very likely others on the
list who can benefit from the discussion.

OK, this assert _can't_ happen because
*reply_width = (x > 10 ? x : 10)
and similarly for reply_height. Of course it did happen, and the
reason it can is that there's stack manipulation (a function return)
between the assignment and the assert. So I would assume your stack
has been smashed somehow, or you're running out of stack space.
At the point of the crash in the debugger, try changing to the assert
frame
(gdb) frame 3
and then printing out the values of the asserted variables
(gdb) print *reply_width
(gdb) print *reply_height
To make much headway, we probably need a build with debugging
symbols. configure --debug ... (where ... is your usual set of
options), and do not strip the binary.
See if you get a crash in that case.
If so, I suspect that both flyspell and mh-e use a fair amount of
regexps, which are known to be hard on the stack. You could try
cd'ing to the src directory and typing
make 'CFLAGS=-DREGEX_MALLOC' regex.o; make
which will rebuild XEmacs to use malloc instead of stack allocation
for regex backtracking frames. This is known to help with some other
regex-related crashes.

sorry if it's already been complained about, as i'm not currently on
xemacs-beta.
goto-line doesn't work any more. its implementation uses forward-line; if you
do ((progn (forward-line 55) (point)) you get the correct results, but the
cursor doesn't end up there. obviously something in redisplay is changing where
the cursor is -- it appears that it's refusing to allow window-start to change
when a scroll command hasn't been invoked. this occurs in both my major
workspaces, which have no common code, so i assume it's something that was
recently checked in. my guess is one of the two recent changes by Mike S, the
window config change or the frame-size change, since they both affect code in
the right place. Mike, can you verify this, and if you see it too, check around
a bit to see if you could have accidentally messed something up?

I added a little html-generation to my build setup. Now you can follow
the status of the package smoketest builds in color html.

Need I say there is room for improvement ;-) Still it might prove more
useful than the old filsystem view of the logs.

xemacs crash as non-root user on start in kill () from /lib/libc.so.6

Dear Bug Team!
xemacs crashes any time it is started with non-root user on my debian
potato system. I am running within KDE. The information from the
report-xemacs-bug call in xemacs that is included below is from being run as
root because I could not bring it up at all as a normal user to get this
information.
I am quite certain that its the same executable of
xemacs for root and user so the information should be accurate, and I have
tried the -vanilla flag with the same results.

I have been waiting a couple of days from Mike Sperber for heads-up on
committing my new KKCC-change workspace. I am getting on a plane in 36 hours
and haven't heard from him so i need to know what you guys think. i can tag the
tree and then commit so you guys can restore in an emergency, or just leave the
commit till mid-January and hope that Mike isn't planning on doing any work on
KKCC before then.

This stack trace was thrown while customizing the jde-checkstyle
customization group. I had been editing the group for several
minutes, and made multiple changes before the error occurred. I think
the last action was to right-click on a down arrow to close the
expanded help text.

It seems that the problem is that (length SEQUENCE) is being called
with a symbol instead of a string. The root cause is probably a
syntax error in the defcustoms for JDE (it wouldn't be the first
time). But widget-field-value-create should protect itself by
converting value to a string if it isn't one already. Alternately,
length could be modified to accept a symbol, but that would be major
change, and probably a controversial one.
