xemacs-2.1.14 fails to build under Solaris 8 with gcc 3.2

Folks,
I attempted to compile xemacs 2.1.14 on a Sun Blade 100 running Solaris 8
with gcc 3.2 and gnu make and got the following error:

Ok, I unpacked their current source RPMs of gcc and glibc, I'm uploading
them into <http://cachalot.ods.org/stuff/rh8/> as I write. It may take
some time to upload all the stuff of this batch, since various 21.4.10
RC3 RPMs are in front of the queue :)
Oh, and please tell me when you have grabbed those, I have (very)
limited disk space on that server.

Just noticed a couple of spurious bold headings in the manual's TOC [1],
but I don't have time to dig into it more right now. I'm using Galeon.
Perhaps due to buggy texi source or a texi2html bug.

Please describe as succinctly as possible:
- What happened.
I installed xemacs-21.4.10 on windows XP, then tried to open Xemacs
A message box popped up saying that it couldn't find cygXpm-noX4.dll and it said to reinstall, which I did but nothing changed
I even tried installing to an alternative directory but it still came up with that message
I clicked on some other *.exe files in the Xemacs directory and they all said that cygwin1.dll could not be found
neither of these dll files are present anywhere on my pc even though i downloaded and installed all the packages etc
- What you thought should have happened.
Xemacs should have opened
- Precisely what you were doing at the time.
tring to use Xemacs
I would appreciate it if I could be told where to get these files from and where to put them

21.5b9 on MacOSX build problem

The following problem has been reported several times on the Fink
mailing lists, but no idea has come forth. Building XEmacs 21.5beta9
with the fink build system (which does nothing special) fails on some
machines towards the end when the newly compiled emacs is dumped and
then used for the first time.
A typical failure message I get on one of my machines is
Dumping under the name xemacs
Testing for Lisp shadows ...
make[1]: *** [xemacs.dmp] Bus error
make[1]: *** Deleting file `xemacs.dmp'
make: *** [src] Error 2
On another machine I get a failure at the same place:
Dumping under the name xemacs
Testing for Lisp shadows ...
Symbol's value as variable is void: frame
xemacs exiting
.

make: *** [src] Error 2
On both machines, this happens every time, and on both it did not
happen with the previous version of XEmacs, which was 21.5.4.
What is even weirder is that a strikingly similar problem occurs when
building GNU Emacs. For some people, there is an error at the same
place in the build process:
./emacs -q -batch -f list-load-path-shadows
make[1]: *** [emacs] Illegal instruction
There are people who get this every time and others for whom this does
not appear.
When the bus error happens, MacOSX gives a nice Crash Report which I
attach below. It is the same crash report every time. Hopefully someone
will see from this what is going on here. To me it looks like something
inside the garbage collection routine.

Just tested 21.5.9/Oort Gnus 0.07
It crashes/disappeares when I want to read a news posting wrote in html
incl. a v-card. It does not happen with 21.4.9 (same posting). Okay
nobody should send such a crap but shit happens.

I have had trouble (rather, I cannot at all) printing from Xemacs. I am
using v. 21.4.6 "Common Lisp (Windows)"

I have found a similar entry in the NT-Emacs archive detailing some of the
errors, but I am afraid that
the discussion is a bit beyond my understanding of Lisp.

I installed the pre-compiled binary for windows OS's.
I have tried limiting column numbers to less than 70 and inserting ^L
characters to force page-breaks, however none of this seems to work. Is
there an 'end of file' control character that I can perhaps use?

It obviously has something to do with the two Emacsen's implementation
of 'replace-match' (doc strings of both included below). My question
is:
What is the best and easiest way to work around this so that XEmacs
behaves the same way as GNU/Emacs?
