OK, so I now have a GTK-compiled XEmacs from CVS. All in all, excellent work. The startup is fast, and the "look and feel" of both XEmacs and Gtk is obviously there. Here are some glitches I noticed: * Native buttons in Customize buffers don't seem to work: This may be because of the theme, but all other Gtk and Gnome applications work; additionally, the buttons in native Gtk dialog boxes (such as the File->Open box) look OK and in accordance with the theme. * The Edit->Find dialog box has all the problems I described in my previous message on that topic, and more. Here everything flashes *continually*, and the buttons are completely invisible. Again, the latter might be because of the theme... * When I invoke (gtk-main), the editor becomes catatonic, although GUI components keep working. Very scary. IMHO C-g should be able to throw a signal which would, when uncaught, terminate the loop. * The modeline doesn't draw as "pressed" when I press a mouse button on it. * Toolbar items don't display tooltips.

Unsupported GTK version? 23 years, 1 month

I tried building XEmacs with GTK support from CVS. First, the configure script wrote this: checking for GTK configuration script... configure: warning: Found unsupported version of GTK: configure: warning: Found unsupported version of GTK: gtk-config checking gtk version... 1.2.9 Is 1.2.9 really unsupported? If so, why, and which is the supported one? Then, my XEmacs crashed on startup. Lisp stacktrace claims the crash happened in input-pending-p, and a C backtrace was unavailable. Then I recompiled with -g and without optimizations and was fortunately able to repeat the crash. As far as I can tell, enqueue_event is called with dispatch_event_queue_tail being a Lisp Objetc with all-zero bit pattern (illegal). This looked like a dumping bug (I use pdump), so I decided to staticpro dispatch_event_queue_tail. And lo and behold, the problem went away. If anything else goes wrong, I'll be sure to let you know. :-)

Build package errors 23 years, 1 month

hi adrian (and all) in my effort to help you squish bugs with your build package i have something to report i have been using build to compile xemacs the problem is that it does not seem to be doing it properly i used the normal method and it finished successfully i used the build package with the same source code and the same configure options and it fell over what do you need me to send you to help in debugging ?? BUG: All frames called 'Search'.... 23 years, 1 month

Hi, With the current CVS of 21.2, I have noticed that after a search dialog is created from the Edit->Find menu option, all new frames (created, eg, via C-x 5 2) have the name 'Search' displayed in the title bar, regardless of what buffer they are displaying. Also, if Gnus is started via the toolbar (which creates a new frame), the error 'Deleting a non-existent buffer' is produced when gnus is exited. Gnus also does not then appear to exit correctly - in paticular, the .newsrc-dribble file is left. So, to reproduce : 1/ Start xemacs 2/ Bring up a find dialog (Edit->Find) 3/ Cancel dialog - The main frame is now called 'Search' 4/ Start Gnus by pressing the 'News' button in the toolbar - The Gnus frame is also called 'Search' 5/ Exit Gnus - The .newsrc-dribble file is left open, and the error 'Selecting deleted or non-existent buffer' appears in the minibuffer. XEmacs 21.2-b46 pop3.el? 23 years, 1 month

Hi, I've got some problems with Xemacs-21.2-b46's (I don't know if the problem exists in others) pop3.el. The problem is that when I try to use 'pop3-leave-mail-on-server t' I get this error message: > Retrieving message list... > Retrieving message list...0 unread > Wrote c:\.emacs-mail-crash-box > Mail source error ((file-error I/O error No such file or directory c:\.uidls.old)). Coninue? (yes or no) > nnml: Reading incoming mail from pop... > Processing mail from ~/.emacs-mail-crash-box... > Retrieving message list... > Retrieving message list...0 unread It seems to me like XEmacs can't read the '.uidls.old' file even thou it exists right where it's supposed to. If I try and eval the expression that crashes before gnus is loaded everything works fine but when gnus is loaded it crashes. OK.. I originally thought this was some sort of AIX screwage. It's been there since at least 21.2-b19 (I have a stack traceback from Oct 29, 1999), but I've been seeing it under latest-CVS updated this morning to -b46 plus. This on a RedHat 7.0 system. Symptom: Using gnuclient, when you hit control-X # to close a client, XEmacs folds up. Seems to be intermittent - today it's every 1-3 attempts, but sometimes it won't bite for several days. Given that I'm seeing it a lot, but it doesn't *seem* to be a show-stopper for others, I'm obviously using some variant config that tickles the bug. I've appended the Installation and tracebacks - anybody got any ideas? /Valdis
