So that I don't look like I'm always submitting bugs, here's a vc suggestion. ;) I submitted this patch to the regular xemacs mailing list, but didn't hear anything. In any case, I find this useful. It highlights the RCS/CVS text in the modeline if the file is checked out. Much easier to detect a changed file instead of looking for a "-" vs. a ":" in the modeline. It's currently defined as a defadvice. Dired 7.10alpha package available for testing 24 years, 1 month

I've finally zipped through most of the outstanding patches for Dired, applied them, did some work of my own, and checked a new Dired into the packages CVS repo, dubbed 7.10 AKA package version 1.10. Please give it a try and let me know how it goes, whether good or bad. Note that I need both success and failure reports to make an actual package release. Please try Dired on as many systems as you have access to, and use it via EFS to remotely edit directories on as many systems as possible. I'm especially interested in Windows, as I don't test on that platform myself. Let me know (via personal email) how it goes. Dired 7.10 no longer provides its own diff-parsing mode in diff.el but instead relies on Stefan Monnier's diff-mode which is not in the XEmacs package tree yet. I have finished a port of diff-mode and expect it to be integrated within the next few days. Until then, you can still use Dired, it's only the diff functionality which won't work. Since the absence of diff-mode also does affect compilability, I've put a binary package at http://www-pu.informatik.uni-tuebingen.de/users/sperber/software/efs/dire... Steve (Youngs, that is): Under no circumstances release the present code until I give the thumbs-up. I apologize for taking so long with this. It's not as easy as it looks. Forgot to cut the copyright line 24 years, 1 month

Someone posted a piece of code last week that changes the modeline for all non-occupied frames to another color as the cursor moves around. The code works great, but I'd like to make one change. I can't get it to work and I didn't cut and paste the header so I don't have the person's address. And, I cannot find any evidence of posting in the nt and beta lists at xemacs-org to which I am subscribed. The change I'd like to make is to NOT modify any modelines if the cursor is switched to the ' *minibuf-0*'; The original section of code looked like this: (unless (eq current-window modeline-last-window) (when modeline-last-window I thought this would work: (unless (or (eq " *Minibuf-0*" 'buffer_name) (eq current-window modeline-last-window) ) (when modeline-last-window but it does not. Getting closer to the display-time/text-glyh crash.. 24 years, 1 month

I think I have a handle on what is happending... The modeline redisplay code calls generate_formatted_string_db which does . . generate_fstring_runes (w, &data, 0, 0, -1, format_str, 0, max_pixpos - min_pixpos, findex, type, &offset, Qnil); [This calls add_glyph deep inside. Instead of only one element to the display block it now add all the characters of the string making it much longer than with the old text-glyph code] resize_string (XSTRING (result_str), -1, data.bytepos - XSTRING_LENGTH (result_str)); [Reserve space] for (elt = 0, len = 0; elt < Dynarr_length (db->runes); elt++) { if (Dynarr_atp (db->runes, elt)->type == RUNE_CHAR) { len += (set_charptr_emchar (strdata + len, Dynarr_atp (db->runes, elt)->object.chr.ch)); } } [copies the chars from the display block] What probably happens is that with the new text glyph code there are more RUNE_CHAR objects than excpected and we blindely overwrite wahtever string came after the modeline string... Sounds plausible? Jan P.S. The reason we probably see this with display-time is that the X first, tty later route causes the full path of the XPM file to be put in as a really long text glyph.

21.2.46 stuck 24 years, 1 month

I was typing something into the minibuffer and xemacs is now stuck. Not sure exactly what I was doing. (Doing things in several windows). Anyway, here is the traceback from gdb of where it got stuck. Problem with viper and VC-Clearcase 24 years, 1 month

Both the Viper and Ediff packages have references to a vc-state variable in them. Michael Kifer, the author of Viper and Ediff thinks it should be defined in vc-hooks in the VC packages. I'm using VC-Clearcase, due to circumstances beyond my control.
