(quote default) "-b&h-lucidatypewriter-medium-*-sans-*-140-*")' &
(all on one line, of course, Linux/XFree86 3.3.6). Similar anomolies
with slightly different appearance (eg, cleared to bg color instead of
white, but the rule is missing in that part of the gutter) occur if
this code is executed after the frame appears.

Hi,
I'm playing with the CVS version of XEmacs 21.2. A problem I'm
experiencing is that shrink-window-if-larger-than buffer never works. If I
plug the CVS version of that defun into 21.1.10, it functions correctly.
One of the functions that shrink-window-if-larger-than-buffer calls must
have changed since 21.1.10, breaking shrink-window-if-larger-than-buffer.
Or am I doing something wrong? All I'm going on is that "C-x -" works in
XEmacs 21.1.10, even with the CVS version of
shrink-window-if-larger-than-buffer, but in XEmacs 21.2 it doesn't work,
even with the old version of the code.

None of Ctrl-L, mouse movement, scrolling the window, or concealing
and exposing it is sufficient to get the gutter (tabs) to redraw.
Changing buffer to *scratch* does redraw the gutter. (Including the
rule separating the gutter from the rest of the frame.)
The font chosen doesn't seem to matter, whether it is wider or
narrower than the default.

I ran into this same bug and found out that automatic font-lock-mode
with that verbose thing on causes this.
You should be able to reproduce this by making the font-lock-mode with
that verbose thing on to come on automatically and then open few
buffers with that, for example foo1.c and foo2.c. Now the one you
opened last should be the rightmost and without that font-lock-mode's
verbose stuff it would be the leftmost.
At least this is what I ran into. I think that I will leave that
verbose setting off. :-) I have the latest cvs-version of xemacs.

In XEmacs 21.2 (beta37) "Pan" [Lucid] (i586-pc-win32) of Wed Nov 15 2000 on SLOTH
configured using `configure UNKNOWN'
Sometimes when for the first time opening a message after Gnus
startup, XEmacs seems to go into infinite loop consuming 100% CPU.
Any ideas?

I'm not sure what the schedule for a 21.2 release is, but I thought I'd
mention a couple of things that I see as outstanding issues - everything is
as of b36, possibly slightly more recent
they're pretty minor
o the dired customize prob reported here remains:

o I believe others have mentioned the problems with focus being lost
after pressing Done in a Customize buffer - oddly, the only thing I
could find in the archives was this msg from Kirill with a patch
ostensibly fixing the prob on win32 - but I still see the problem on
both Irix and win32 - I do use focus-follows-mouse

o the weirdness in Motif buttons, both in dialogs and in Customize buffers
