Found part of the culprit, but can't figure out the solution. in 'fume-rescan-buffer', working modes don't flag the error caught by the condition-case, i.e. (setq fnam (condition-case () (funcall find buffer-to-scan) (error ; reached every time with LaTeX's find routine, ; not reached with C, or Makefile, etc... (the comments were added by me). So there is something in fume-find-next-latex-section-name which is throwing the error. It might be occurring in the code after the initial let* statement (which extracts the correct function name), but I don't have time (until tommorow) to figure out where the rest of the bug is, or what the solution will be. And, it might not (be occurring then). Sigh... best, -tony

anyone understand ediff crockishness? 25 years, 10 months

I'm trying to fix problems with ediff under mswindows and coming across some bizarre code: in ediff-wind.el we have: (set-specifier top-toolbar-height (list ctl-frame 2)) (sit-for 0) (set-specifier top-toolbar-height (list ctl-frame 0)) Which used to break under mswindows since you can't display anything in a toolbar 2 pixels high. Can someone explain what this code is trying to do? Next we have: ;; synchronize so the cursor will move to control frame ;; per RMS suggestion (if (ediff-window-display-p) (let ((count 7)) (sit-for .1) (while (and (not (frame-visible-p ctl-frame)) (> count 0)) (setq count (1- count)) (sit-for .3)))) Now I can't even byte compile this because of the .3 and .1 - I get errors about invalid read syntax. Similarly if I try and debug it. And if I try and run it I get wrong type argument - numberp, 0\.0:876386483 Commenting this code out makes things work much better but what is it trying to do? Two small nits 25 years, 10 months

I noticed two changes to UI defaults in XEmacs 21.0. I'd like to know if these are intentional changes or bugs, so I can update my Xdefaults and Custom stuff accordingly. The geometry on the initial frame is handled differently. I have the following setting in my Xrdb database: Emacs.geometry: 80x75-1+0 Note that I have all toolbars and menus turned off, and with 20.4, this setting gives me an initial frame of 80x77 that just perfectly fits on the screen vertically. With 21.0, the frame is two rows too tall, so I have to change that geometry setting to 80x73 to end up with an 80x77 frame. Second, the background color on the modeline has changed to be the same as the default face's background. Previously the default background color on the modeline was a light shade of gray, which provided better contrast to the default font background. This appears easy enough to change with Custom (although the 3D effect doesn't seem to be configurable, or track my change to the background). Also, the foreground used to be Black. If these changes are intentional, I'll just go ahead and update my settings (conditionalizing on the XEmacs version makes things interesting though). Thanks, -Barry
