I don't presume to know what the hell I'm talking about, but it seems to me
that neither the "early-packages" or "late-packages" have a valid path.
Maybe they don't have to. I did copy in the packages from a previous
install. I thought that was the normal thing to do since you just unpack
them, right? I don't remember there being a actual install process that
would set up these paths.
Anyway, if I mv the pkg dir
"c:/progra~1/XEmacs/XEmacs-21.4.9/xemacs-packages" up one directory to
"c:/progra~1/XEmacs", will that work? That seems to be one of the paths
under the configure-package-path list.

This means your packages are not being found for some reason.
Try running "xemacs --debug-paths". This will tell you where XEmacs
expects to find the packages. You can also set the environment
variable EMACSPACKAGEPATH. If you know your packages are in
c:\progra~1\XEmacs/XEmacs-21.4.9/xemacs-packages/lisp/cc-mode
and similar for other package names besides cc-mode,
set EMACSPACKAGEPATH c:\progra~1\XEmacs/XEmacs-21.4.9
may give you some joy.

The "winclient" are not passing line number information to
"XEmacs". The command line
D:\temp>"C:\program files\XEmacs\XEmacs-21.4.9\i586-pc-win32\winclient.exe" +2 test.tex
open the file "test.tex" on "XEmacs", but does not move cursor to
seccond line.
Note: If replace "winclient" with "xemacs", it move cursor to seccond
line, but it open new "XEmacs" windows and are not suitable for use on
Tex inverse search features.
Note: XEmacs instalation are of netinstall with default options,
without setup changes.

Hi,
I'm getting this problem during the build with the latest version from
cvs.
(This was caused me to try to build 21.4 and that build complained
about the md5.el. So it might be related. This error message is harder
to understand though. Anyone who can explain the error and if there is
something I can do about it.)

Splitting packages

Ok, I'm willing to start slowly splitting packages into smaller, more
closely-related chunks. I've seen many messages about this saying that
people have not had time to do it in the past.
The first ones in my list would be splitting python, perl and ruby stuff
out from prog-modes, since these involve multiple files in a single-file
package.
I'm thinking about the naming of this kind of packages, and suggest
foo-support as the template. Like this:
ruby-support: ruby-mode.el* inf-ruby.el* rubydb3x.el* (not in CVS yet)
python-support: python-mode.el* pydoc*
perl-support: cperl-mode.el perl-mode.el
Maybe old-c-mode.el from prog-modes should also be moved to c-support.
Thoughts?

Local Variables not reset by revert-buffer?

Dear Bug Team!
I'm working with XEmacs 21.4.9 and my Local Variables aren't being updated.
With GNU Emacs 21.3 and XEmacs 21.4.8, after editing the Local Variables at the
end of the file and saving, if I do a (revert-buffer t t); the new values will
be recognized. However, this doesn't work in 21.4.9. Any ideas?

I'd like to know whether the XEmacs developer community has seen any
interest/action toward native graphics support for Mac OS X. By this I
mean substituting Quartz and Aqua for X11. If such an effort is already
underway, I'd like to lend my support if I can. If not, perhaps a
developer who is already familiar with the pertinent portions of the
code base could give a brief overview of how feasible such a port would
be, and what steps might need to be taken to make it a reality. If this
is just silly, I won't take offense to a good whack with a clue-by-four;
this is a fairly naive question. My (cursory) examination of the code
suggests there are X11-isms sprinkled liberally through the code, which
might make this type of transformation inadvisable. On the other hand,
I thought it was logical to want my beloved text editor to be a
first-class citizen of my preferred OS.
