[Bug: 21.5-b27] Can't move cursor in edit-faces buffer
17 years, 1 month

================================================================
Dear Bug Team!
First off, I started testing with 21.5 back in October, at the request
of some of our users who want to play with the new features
(specifically xft). I found a number of minor issues, but the
xemacs-beta list was nonexistent at the time. I'll resend the reports
now, and I apologize in advance for the mail flood. Thanks for your
time!:-)
Minor but strange... in the M-x edit-faces buffer, I can't seem to
move the cursor consistently via any means other than C-s. I'm always
stuck at the bottom of the buffer; the arrow keys and M-< do nothing.
I can use C-s to jump to a face by name, but then the left/right arrow
keys are stuck in the current field, and up/down arrows will get me
back to the the bottom of the buffer again in short order.
I know I should be using customize-face instead, but that dumps core
when xft is enabled. Another report on that to follow when I get some
more details...

That still doesn’t explain all of the discrepancy. See

It is his code. We (mostly Stephen) had discussions with him about merging
it, which foundered when at least one file which he declared entirely public
domain was (as far as can be worked out) derived from a GPLed file. We don’t
have any objection to public domain code, but code that contravenes the GPL
is problematic.

Sure, if we had the manpower, porting the GNU Carbon code (which he also
wrote) would be entirely doable. We don’t.

Yes, it does. Thanks.

Already done.
I seem to have a working ediff+new vc at this point. I'll let you worry
about the logistics of compiling ediff with the unsupported vc. Just as
long as I can ediff-revision for Subversion I'm happy...
Thanks,
Skip

Bug in ediff-vc-latest-version w/ new vc
17 years, 1 month
Skip Montanaro
I downloaded Ville's latest vc (0.93) and substituted it for what came with
21.5.28. I tried viewing the differences between a file and the latest
version checked into Subversion. XEmacs complained about the variable
'state' not being defined. The ediff-vc-latest-version function does indeed
seem to use an unbound variable named 'state':
(defun ediff-vc-latest-version (file)
"Return the version level of the latest version of FILE in repository."
(if (fboundp 'vc-latest-version)
(vc-latest-version file)
(or (vc-file-getprop file 'vc-latest-version)
(cond ((vc-backend file)
(vc-call state file)
(vc-file-getprop file 'vc-latest-version))
(t (error "File %s is not under version control" file))))
))
I'm not sure why I never saw this before with CVS. Maybe vc-latest-version
was bound in the old vc but not in the new.

The naive approach is to do a M-x show-memory-usage RET and look at the
output, and see has anything evidently gone wrong. Unfortunately, that
doesn’t actually reflect XEmacs memory usage; on one 32-bit build I’m told I
have 31 MB in use, where the OS tells me it’s 85MB. If you’re particularly
lucky, the show-memory-usage figure may bear some relation to the actual OS
figure.
*Maybe* valgrind would help. I haven’t yet tried it.

[Bug: 21.5-b28] GNUS toolbar wierdness

================================================================
Dear Bug Team!
I'm using xemacs cvs from about a week ago. Everything seems to be
working as expected, but I see some weirdness in the toolbar in GNUS.
Normally there's a toolbar displayed. However, in this version, while
I'm in any buffer, the toolbar is not displayed. But when I move to
either the *article* buffer or the *mail* buffer, the toolbar is
displayed.
Needless to say, this is annoying because the window keeps moving
around.
Any hints on where to look? (My xemacs packages are a bit old.
Perhaps I should update them too.)
Ray

Warning:
Defaulting to the GNU Emacs-derived `sendmail.el' mail client. This facility,
while part of base XEmacs, is heinously underfeatured, and not going to get
better in the medium term. We include it so that bug reports work without
packages; we suggest that you choose and/or install one of the other mail
clients from packages if you're doing something other than M-x
report-xemacs-bug , or even if you are reporting bugs regularly.
To choose a package from those installed, click on "Options" ->
"Internet" -> "Compose Mail With ..." and decide on one from the
list. Gnus and VM are full-featured and have active user communities.
To disable this warning and stick with the old behavior, you can explicitly

The branch is called carbon2. To get it, do:
cvs -d :pserver:cvs@cvs.xemacs.org:/pack/xemacscvs login
(it will ask for your password, which is cvs ) followed by
cvs -z3 -d :pserver:cvs@cvs.xemacs.org:/pack/xemacscvs \
checkout -d xemacs-carbon2 -r carbon2 xemacs
To build, once the checkout is done:
cd xemacs-carbon2/carbon && sh < build-app.sh
This hasn’t been synced with the trunk or with Andrew Choi’s patches in a
long time, mind--it’s something I need to get to--so it might be more
constructive for your development to start with applying his latest patch,
at
http://members.shaw.ca/akochoi-xemacs/Carbon%20XEmacs/Installation_files/...
, to the trunk, fixing the build failure(s?) it provokes--Qtype definitely
needs to be changed to Qunicode_type in intl-carbon.c, and there may have
been one more problem, but I can’t remember that now.

assumed to be mad, though it may only have been indiscriminating. (Saki)
