I don't see the behavior you described. Here's what I did:
mkdir test
cd test
cp ~/cvsroot/xemacs-21.4/src/win* .
etags *.c *.h
xemacs-21.4 -vanilla
C-x C-f window.c
C-s XSETWINDOW
M-. -> Find tag: (default XSETWINDOW) RET
This loads the TAGS file and jumps to the definition of XSETWINDOW in
window.h. The TAGS file is small enough not to prompt for a
completion table.
This is running the latest windows native XEmacs from the 21.4.19-pre5
setup kit (available from
ftp://ftp.xemacs.org/pub/xemacs/windows/testing).
Do you see the problematic behavior in a xemacs started with the
-vanilla option?
If so, please file a bug report with the new XEmacs (the installation
report you filed came from the 21.4.13 version).
What does your etags file look like? Did you generate a fresh one
using the etags that came with XEmacs?

I opened three small files from the command line. Then changed font size
(Options menu) to 14pt. Then it crashed with indicated assertion failing.

RESEND: Patch to build on latest Cygwin (1.5.19)

I sent this a couple of days ago, but it never showed up on either list I addressed it to...
The patch below fixes a compiler error that occurs when building the latest 21.5 sources from CVS on the latest Cygwin release. Cygwin 1.5.19 has removed the d_ino field from 'struct dirent' since it wasn't used on Cygwin and apparently POSIX doesn't require it to be present. I haven't done a great deal of testing with this patch, but dired seems to work fine with it.
Also, I had to disable the new allocator when building as it was causing core dumps. I haven't had much time to look at it, but apparently, SYS_PAGE_SIZE was returning an unrecognized value in init_mc_allocator() which was causing ABORT() to be called from the switch statement at the beginning of the function. I'll try to look at it in a bit more detail in a few days.

I have the elisp variable inhibit-site-lisp set to the default,
nil, yet site-lisp is not added to load-path. I unpacked
ESS into c:\XEmacs\Packages\site-lisp and

Please don't drop xemacs-beta from your follow-ups. I'm neither as
consistently helpful, nor as smart as the combined wisdom of all the
readers of xemacs-beta, so you're much better off including the whole

I don't know if this is an artifact of the way I built the setup kit
(or XEmacs may just be finding ftp.exe based on your path). I've
uploaded a new setup kit to

I tried to avoid having any of my customizations creep into the
building of this kit. If you get a chance, please try out this new
kit and see if this makes any difference.

Did you uninstall the 21.4.18 setup kit? The 21.4.18 setup kit set
the EMACSPACKAGEPATH variable in the registry and the new kits don't
do that. The uninstall kit for 21.4.18 should clean this up. If
you're curious, the registry key is (I believe)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/XEmacs/XEmacs/EMACSPACKAGEPATH. This key
is no longer necessary as of the 21.4.19-pre kits and is potentially
harmful.

Hi Rodney,
I don't know how to make the native Windows configuration process
respect site-lisp, so I didn't turn on that option when building the
native Windows kit.
I do, however, know that when I run configure --help in 21.4, the
output tells me:
--with-site-lisp (Bool) Search a site-lisp directory in the XEmacs
hierarchy before the packaged Lisp. DEPRECATED.
I'm sure Mike Sperber will have some comments when he sees this
thread. (I also suspect that David Kastrup will agree with you that
'site-packages/*/lisp' should be supported.)
FWIW, I think it's unlikely that the (stable) 21.4 branch will ever
support the new feature 'site-packages/*/lisp', but sometimes patches
convince me to change my mind.
