* XEmacs 21.4.19 "Constant Variable" is released.
"Constant Variable" is the nineteenth in the OXYMORON series.
The latest stable release of XEmacs, XEmacs 21.4.19 - "Constant Variable",
is now available from xemacs.org and its mirrors.

See http://www.xemacs.org/Install/. As of 21.4.19, only a source
tarball has been supplied. There was virtually no use of the info and
elc tarballs, so xemacs-21.4.19.tar.gz and xemacs-21.4.19.tar.bz2 are
the only tarballs supplied.
If you already have a 21.4.18 source tree, a patchkit is available in
xemacs-21.4.18-21.4.19.patch.gz. This does not update .elcs or .infos,
they will be rebuilt when you make XEmacs. If you have an earlier
version, you can repeatedly apply patchkits.
The tarballs and patches are signed with my GPG key, available from
most public keyservers and also from
ftp://ftp.xemacs.org/pub/xemacs/pgp-keys/vin_shelton.asc

Anonymous CVS is available. We are very grateful to the staff at our
host, SunSITE.dk, for a lot of help and quick reponse to all our
requests.
If you haven't used XEmacs CVS recently, we moved the repository
before the 21.4.6 release. The repository structure is the same as
before, so it should be possible to reuse an existing checked-out CVS
tree.
Take care that your Root is set correctly to
CVSROOT=:pserver:cvs＠cvs.xemacs.org:/pack/xemacscvs
On platforms with a Bourne shell and find available, something like
for r in `find . -name Root`; do echo $CVSROOT > $r; done
will convert your entire tree.
Tags are also the same; to update to release 21.4.19, use the release
tag "r21-4-19". To set a sticky tag which will always update to the
current release, use the branch tag "release-21-4".

Merge from 21.5.
* configure.in: Fixed `LDAP_OPT_ON' libraries configuration
introduced in local 2005-03-13 change of `configure.in'. However,
do not check for internal `-lber' `ber_pvt_opt_on' symbol as done
in upstream. This symbol is not part of any published interface,
it may exist or not exist, depending on openldap version. Cryptic
comment before using it in upstream 21.5 source did not state
precisely under which circumstances checking for it was useful,
which sort of user code tried to link the symbol. So in local
21.5 dismissed both the code and the comment without writing a
cleaner equivalent.

[Bug: 21.5-b23] Lisp error in #'vm-visit-folder

Dear Bug Team!
When I use VM in a vanilla XEmacs 21.5.23, and want to visit a folder
with M-x vm-visit-folder, I get the Lisp error "No other window to
side of this one". All XEmacs packages are up-to-date.
I have added the Lisp backtrace below, FYI.
Is this a known problem? I can investigate myself, but I don't want to
spend the time if somebody else knows about this already. Probably I
would update VM first, XEmacs package still contains the upstream
version 7.17.

AUCTeX appends names of potential subdirectories to these paths in
order to get absolute directory names.

The stuff is used in AUCTeX's configure script, so there is nothing
like a menu. However, if AUCTeX doesn't find a suitable directory,

I've tried that, but that's too complicated and I don't know how to write
a bash shell script to perform the LF -> CR LF conversion (in cygwin)
the script has to:
1. check every files in the compilation directory trees
a. to see if it is a text file or a binary file
(using "file"?)
2. if it is a text file, performance a LF -> CR LF conversion
(but by what program? "sed"?)
That's kind of out of my ability at the moment
Help and suggestions are welcome (I haven't tried getting files from CVS,
as suggested earlier, but logically CVS files will go to the distribution
and I expect them to be the same - UNIX format)

Vin,
So what is the proper uninstallation????? I used the uninstall program
that came with 21.4.13. I even went through my registry and deleted all
references to XEmacs before installing 21.4.18. Should I have done
other steps in the uninstallation???
I thought I was clear on my exact steps earlier but I'll re-iterate them
here. To produce the problem, I do the following:
- start XEmacs
- C-x C-f C:\projects\code\airborne\05xx\app565\167in.c
- place cursor on GPS167_ERROR (a #define in my code)
- M-. GPS167_ERROR (to find the definition of this #define)
The minibuffer on the bottom says:
File c:\TAGS not a valid tags file
Then the tag search aborts. I will get the same behavior is I do:
M-x tags-search
I am also unable to specify a tag table with:
M-x visit-tags-table
Bottom line....I am unable to do a tags-search with 21.4.18.

where does package-get-info get its info from? (was: gnus 5.10.7 not rendering Latin-1 headers)

Hmm. When I do that, I get
(package-get-info 'gnus 'date)
"2003-10-13"
(package-get-info 'gnus 'author-version)
"5.10.2"
I thought it might be getting that from
$HOME/.xemacs/package-index.LATEST.gpg (which hasn't been updated since
22 September 2004). But if I blow away that file and invoke
package-get-info in a new XEmacs process, it creates a new
package-index.LATEST.gpg and gives me the same results.
The packages that I'm actually running are from a sumo that I unpacked
in /usr/local/lib/xemacs/xemacs-packages.

If you've got the mail generated by report-xemacs-bug, it has the
version information for all the installed packages. In this case, it's
(gnus ver: 1.87 upstream: 5.10.7)
You could then track this back with the package ChangeLog.
