Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:
Was starting up gnus at the time.
This involves the following in my setup:
(call-process "ipconfig" nil t nil "/all")
I suspect this is where the WAIT_TIMEOUT occurs.

In lisp-mode.el there is lisp-fill-paragraph, that is hardcoded to
handle only lisp style comments that start with ';'.
With a moderate amount of effort, this function could be extended to
handle any language that has 'comment-start'.
For example, the expression (looking-at "[ \t]*;[; \t]*") could be changed
to (looking-at (concat "[ \t]*" comment-start-regexp "\\(" comment-start-regexp "\\|[ \t]\\)*"))
where comment-start-regexp is (regexp-quote (or comment-start ";"))

Has anyone else noticed a huge slowdown in ediff startup? This began
with an update back perhaps 6 months ago. It is now almost unusable
for me on large files. I don't know if it relates to my fontification
options or what.

Hello all.
I've been out of the XEmacs development loop for a while, but I'm back
now... my intentions w.r.t. XEmacs are to get back to working on
alignment issues with proportional fonts, and to develop my little
experiments (http://home.fnal.gov/~cgw/xemacs/experiment/) into a real
patch. (The website is still up at FNAL but I am not currently
working there).
Dipping my toes back into the water of XEmacs development, I
downloaded xemacs-21.4.3 and built it on a Solaris 5.7 box.
A few comments:
The progress gauge seems pretty broken. It only updates when I move
the mouse. And when it does update, it jiggles horizontally, and the
background flashes alternately grey and blue. (It looks pretty bad. I
wish I knew how to take a screenshot in .MPG format).
I find it somewhat disappointing that there is no configure-time
option to disable gutters and progress-bars. Is there a customizable
lisp variable to make these (no-value-added) progress gauges go away
and trouble me no more? According to what I can find from
hyper-apropos, I can make the progress gauge "large" or "small", but
can I customize it into oblivion? In its current shape, the progress
gauge is not yet ready for prime time. It should be disabled by
default and enable-able as an option, like other "experimental"
features such as drag-n-drop.
The keyboard accelerators on the menus are similarly quite ugly and
I'd like to see a way to disable these as well. They would be OK as
an optional feature. Particularly things like the font-size menu,
which looks goofy with two columns of numbers:

_5_ 9

Why aren't the font sizes themselves used as their own accelerators?
If you enable function-menu, the first letter of each function in the
function menu is underlined, even if these letters are not unique.
For instance, in emacs.c:

_m_ake_arg_list_1
_m_ake_argc_argv
...
And, maybe I'm just being thick, but I don't understand what key combo
is supposed to bring up the accelerated menus. On my box, neither
alt-T nor meta-T nor ctrl-T brings up the _T_ools menu. What is the
intented usage of the menu accelerators?
Other than these aesthetic comments, 21.4.3 seems pretty stable - I've
been running it for about a day without incident.
One of the reasons I switched from FSFmacs to XEmacs back in 1995 or
so was that XEmacs was so much more aesthetically pleasing. Let's
make 21.4 the most beautiful XEmacs yet!

i've been using fink to install various packages onto my
new X on MacOS X platform, and had some successes.
but getting xemacs running is critical, and not working.
i'm trying to figure out fink/dpkg mechanisms, too, but
i was wondering if this trace makes any sense to the

make-frame-on-display hangs XEmacs

In XEmacs 21.4 (patch 4) "Artificial Intelligence" [Lucid] (i686-pc-linux) of Mon Jul 30 2001 on neo
configured using `configure --with-x11 --with-toolbars=no --with-menubars=lucid --with-scrollbars=lucid --with-xface --with-ipv6-cname=no'
Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:
I have two machines on a local network running XFree 4.0.3. The first
one is lucas, the second one neo. XEmacs runs on neo. If I display
XEmacs on neo and use make-frame-on-display lucas:0, XEmacs hangs. If
I display XEmacs on lucas and use ... neo:0, XEmacs hangs.

The home is shared via NFS, both screen are running at 75 dpi and are
using the same font server (and only use fonts from it).
If I open a new display on the same machine, this works. If I try to
display to an inexistant display, I get a regular error.

gnuclient works as long as I don't try to open a new display. The
problem appears on 21.4.3 and 21.4.4 (don't know for earlier
release). lucas was formerly with XFree 3.3.6 and no font server and
the problem was the same.
Any other ideas ? Since I can run one xemacs per display, is there a
way to attach them together to share the buffers ?

I just downloaded the full tarball for 21.4.4 and tried to build it on
Solaris 2.7. I also downloaded the latest xemacs and mule sumo
tarballs. Everything compiles but it fails to run temacs. It dumps
core at this point:

This looks exactly like the same error I had reported for 21.4.0
except I've updated everything. Back then I just reinstalled the
individual mule packages which DON'T have a dumped-lisp.el file in
them. Everything worked after that, I think.
I'm going to try to just delete the dumped-lisp.el files (in egg-its
and skk) and see what happens....
Ok. That went fine. I just checked the egg-its package and it doesn't
have a dumped-lisp.el file in it, but the mule sumo does. A packaging
error?
