Since I'm building with Athena widgets and Motif dialogs, the Athena text-label widget isn't used. However, xm_creation_table doesn't have text-field defined either because I'm not using Motif widgets. Therefore xemacs crashes because there's no text-field widget defined anywhere. (See instantiate_widget_instance.) I'm not sure if this is a configure problem or a source code problem, but, anyway, here is the obvious patch to always include the text-field widget when we are using Athena widgets. This patch fixes my crash. The find dialog box, however, is still too small to hold the entire dialog (as someone else reported). When I resize it, it flickers like crazy for quite a while after I'm done resizing too. xemacs/setup/installed.db??? 23 years, 2 months

Since recently, updating packages seems to create the directory and file xemacs/setup/installed.db. Why, and how can I control the place where this file goes? xemacs/setup seems wrong as normally there is no xemacs dir on my system. Thanks. XEmacs/GTK status update... 23 years, 2 months

Well, I just checked in a whole slew of changes to GTK last night and early today, if people want to check them out. Native widgets work fairly well. I suppose I should implement the gutter at some point. Here's a screenshot of the search dialog - ignore the fact that everything shows up as a pushbutton instead of radio buttons for right now. :) Is there any reason why on platforms that support it the layout widget is not done as a `real' layout widget? Then you would be able to specify things like whether the layout was to divide space evenly between the widgets, etc.

Although, I think I'll go back to using Motif (either Motif or Lesstif) for my widgets since the Athena ones are so ugly. (Maybe I'll try the Athena 3D widgets, which look much nicer.) When you add this, if you haven't already, perhaps a better changelog entry should used. What I gave tells what was done, but not why: The text-field widget is needed when compiling with Athena widgets and Motif is used for other things. The existing code left them out in this situation. I think this is better log than what I wrote previously. (Sorry!) Ray

Crash (assertion failed) in 21.2.44 23 years, 2 months

Hi, I have reported this bug once already, but apparentlyy nobody took notice. So here it is again. This happens on a fairly regular basis on my system. Last time it happened twice in a row after exactly same actions (copy a line from one buffer, switch to another, go to the top and 2 lines down, paste - boom), but unfortunately I could not repro it after that. My feeling is that the bug occurs when I do things really fast (which would explain why I couldn't repro it). The assertion is below. I have no idea what the code that causes it does, but would be willing to help somebody who knows - e.g. I can add some checking code to the problematic place etc. In any case, this bug is as good a showstopper as any for a "release" so at least some attention by one of XEmacs' core writers is I think justified.
