Building beta under cygwin 23 years, 1 month

Folks, I'm getting a couple of nasties building the current tree under cygwin 1.1.8. The first is trivial, the second is beyond me. Problem 1 ********* $ cvs -d :pserver:xemacs＠cvs.xemacs.org:/usr/CVSroot checkout -rr21-2-latest-beta xemacs $ pwd $ cd xemacs/ $ ./configure $ make craps out not being able to find the win32 api: make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/local/src/xemacs-21.2-temp/xemacs/netinstall' gcc -g -O3 -Wall -Wno-switch -Winline -Wmissing-prototypes -Wshadow -Wpointer-arith -O2 -DMINGW -I/usr/lib/../include/mingw32 -I/usr/lib/../include/mingw -I/usr/lib/../include -mno-cygwin -I. -I/usr/local/src/xemacs-21.2-temp/xemacs/netinstall -mwindows -c -o autoload.o /usr/local/src/xemacs-21.2-temp/xemacs/netinstall/autoload.c In file included from /usr/local/src/xemacs-21.2-temp/xemacs/netinstall/autoload.c:16: /usr/local/src/xemacs-21.2-temp/xemacs/netinstall/win32.h:34: windef.h: No such file or directory /usr/local/src/xemacs-21.2-temp/xemacs/netinstall/win32.h:35: basetyps.h: No such file or directory et cetera. I _think_ this is a gcc bug and that -mwindows should automatically add the w32api directory to the include path. make -k shows similar problems with compiling ./src So I say $ ./configure --site-includes=/usr/include/w32api No joy for netinstall (--site-includes doesn't make it to its makefile, should it?), but this works for src. Problem 2 ********* The second problem seems more subtle. When doing a build from a clean cvs tree (as above), temacs spins when batch compiling the lisp. Compiling explicitly with: $ xemacs -batch -q -no-site-file -l bytecomp -f batch-byte-compile /usr/local/src/xemacs-21.2-temp/xemacs/lisp/*.el works. Then the make completes fine. Any hints on debugging this? Regards, - Phil

Problems with PSGML and font-locking 23 years, 1 month

Hi, I've problems with psgml and font-locking. While the psgml package 1.20 worked fine, I'm seeing this with 1.22 and 1.23 from the experimental directory (downgrading to 1.20 makes it work again. I'm opening a XML file with the following general outline ---- <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>  <!DOCTYPE readme SYSTEM "readme.dtd"> <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xml" href="readme-html.xsl"?> <readme lang="De"> <title name="README">....</title> <author>....</author> <email>....</email> <section> <title name="allgemeines">Allgemeines</title> <para> ..... </para> </section> </readme> ---- I've set '(setq sgml-set-face t)'. After typing C-c C-p I receive this error: (1) (error/warning) Error in `post-command-hook' (setting hook to nil): (wrong-type-argument arrayp nil) Setting debug-on-error to t provides this backtrace: Signaling: (wrong-type-argument arrayp nil) sgml-max-pos-in-tree(nil) sgml-update-display() sgml-command-post() Has anybody seen this? What I don't understand is why I *don't* see the problem. To test it I did: make distclean, autoloads, bindist saved the last compilation buffer to a file applied your patch make distclean, autoloads, bindist saved the last compilation buffer to another file ran ediff on the two saved compilation outputs The result was 25 differences between the two. That's the good news. The bad news is that *all* of the 25 differences had zero effect on the build. c mode indentaion bug 23 years, 1 month

Hi, xemacs --vanilla C-x C-f qq.c In the qq.c buffer (in C mode), type in the following: ---------------- cut here ---------------- main () { a = 1;/// ---------------- cut here ---------------- Note the 3 slashes. After the last slash, press ENTER. Then press TAB to go to the correct indentation level - oops, instead of going to the position under 'a', caret stops under = (that is with the default indentaion of 2 - so it indents twice instead of once). Removing one of the slashes "fixes" the problem. XEmacs 21.2 (beta44) "Thalia" [Lucid] (i686-pc-cygwin) of Mon Feb 19 2001 on LUCY (the version is from Feb 19 cvs). Thanks. -- Cheers, -Dima.

To any one that can help, I am trying to find a compiled version of xemacs that can use cygwin on the windows side to mimic unix and also has the capability to telnet to a unix server. Adrian, the web page is misleading because it indicates that this is non-cygwin. Could you possibly change it? Thanks andy

If you got to this mailing list, you know about the XEmacs web site. In the "Download" link, just pick one of the mirrors and navigate to the "windows" directory, and download and execute "setup.exe". Make sure you choose the "Cygwin" choice on the GUI. -- =================================================================== David M.
