Volkers solution handles the problem within code and therefore is the correct way using that code part. I just compared a working reference ps-output, generated from a gnu-emacs ps-print.el (3.05) with the not-working from (3.05x1). The reference output skipped that part at all, which then was 'my' solution. Rolf

How to submit patches? 22 years, 4 months

Hi. How should I submit patches? just send them xemacs-patches? The patches will be against CVS HEAD, and are only in documentation (texi-files). How come that there's no author information in xemacs texinfo files, I find it sad that the author is excluded. I know the documentation is written by many authors, but wouldn't it be nice to have something like author or maintainer for documentation files too? Jarl

Q: Making an XEmacs package 22 years, 4 months

Hi. I am planning to make an XEmacs package one day (out of eSMS) and needs some information of how to do that. There will probably come a series of questions regarding this. I partially document my experiences so I may come up with some documentation patches for the lispref.texi file during all this. Please don't give me a RTFM, since it may actually be TFM I'm criticising. In the lispref there's a section describing Defining Global Variables. A lot of stuff regarding defvar is mentioned and one should start the documentation string with an asteriks to indicate it's a user option, the text also refers to the function `edit-options' which is not declared in XEmacs. So to me it looks like much of this information (even big parts of lispref) is left-overs from GNU Emacs. As I see it user-options should not be declared with `defvar', but rather `defcustom'. does that make `defvar' obsolete? Since a variable is either a "constant" that is not intended for user modifications (using `defcons') or it's a user customisation (using `defcustom'), can anyone come up with an example of when it's appropriate to use `defvar'? Can anyone point me to some documentation on how to make the jump from a simple *.el-file to a real integrated XEmacs package? A list of criterias on file/directory-structure, etc. would be nice. cvs updating 22 years, 4 months

Trouble with mouse bindings in xemacs 21.4.5 under MS Windows 22 years, 4 months

I'm seeing curious behavior when trying to rebind mouse keys. Here's an example: I execute: (global-unset-key 'button3) (global-set-key 'button3 'mouse-track-adjust) [I execute them by typing them into the *scratch* buffer, selecting them with the mouse, and choosing "Evaluate region or defun" from the "Lisp" menu.) I do C-h k and click the right mouse button, and it reports that mouse-track-adjust is bound to button3. *However*: clicking button3 seems to have no effect at all. mouse-track-adjust does work as expected on shift button1 -- it came pre-bound there on my intallation I also tried the above with button3 replaced by (shift button2). Again, when queried, it reports that the binding is as expected. But, this time, clicking the middle mouse button with the shift held down seems to produce the same effect as clicking it without the shift held down, i.e., the last kill gets pasted. If I then do (global-unset-key '(shift button2)), the pasting no longer happens. Thanks for any help you can offer. Please make http://ftp.sk.xemacs.org/ a true mirror and update 22 years, 4 months

Hello ftp.sk.xemacs.org, linklint found for me that ftp.sk.xemacs.org has not been updated in a while. What is your update schedule? The big problem is that ftp.sk.xemacs.org is not even a true mirror of ftp.xemacs.org. You have added tmp directories in many places under /pub/mirrors/xemacs/windows: 4 lines matching /tmp/$ in buffer ftp.sk.xemacs.org-windows.err. 104:Checking /pub/mirrors/xemacs/windows/old/cygwin32/tmp/ 321:Checking /pub/mirrors/xemacs/windows/cygwin32/tmp/ 495:/pub/mirrors/xemacs/windows/cygwin32/tmp/ 519:/pub/mirrors/xemacs/windows/old/cygwin32/tmp/ Could you please directories not found on ftp.xemacs.org out of /pub/mirrors/xemacs?
