i checked out and built this morning (CEST)
oh, btw, the mouse leaving menu kills emacs bug that i reported seems
to be gone away, thanks!
now, to the current prob, in was using gnus, reading a newsgroup, when
i typed "=", to delete the article and tree windows and have a full
screen window of the summary, but
XEmacs disappeared

Urk! Potential patch to scrollbar.c?

Now, the scrollbars in athena behave differently than
gtk/motif/athena3d/windows in that scrollbar-page-up and
scrollbar-page-down require passing in a cons of (WINDOW . NUMBER) where
the others just want WINDOW.
My question is why in scrollbar.c the athena-like behaviour is
conditionalized with ifdefs instead of just checking whether NILP (XCDR
(object))? Couldn't this code:

That way whenever anybody adds a new (sane) scrollbar type, they don't have
to update scrollbar.c? And this way the hypothetical scrollbar-FOO.c could
decide whether it wants the athena-like code itself? Perhaps
conditionalize it?
Just curious... would anyone accept a patch to this effect?

21.2.b33: Latest CVS version crashes after sending a message from gnus

Hi,
I'm using a CVS version updated around 4 pm EST 4-May-2000. With my
configuration (cygwin, non-MULE, gnus 5.8.7), it consistently crashes
right after sending a message from gnus. The exact symptoms are: After
sending the mail (C-c C-c), gnus usually returns to the group buffer.
With this XEmacs, its screen becomes blank. At that time, I usually
could display the electric buffer list, and switch to another buffer.
But after switching the screen remains blank. An attempt to switch to
another buffer at that time hangs XEmacs, and CPU activity goes up (to
50% of my dual pII 400 system, according to the task manager).
When I ran this from a bash prompt, and did a kill, the following
showed up:

CRASH: gutter broken again

hi,
actually it has been broken recently because i wasn't bitching about it
for quite some time. it used to work perfectly these last months, and
sometime the last month or so it began to not draw the name properly
anymore, which i did not care too much about, assuming andy would fix it
when he could, assuming also he knew of the problem.
now it crashes on me when i click on the tab without any obvious reason.
i've been switching from tab to tab between three buffers fast and
furious for five minutes when it crashed.
did that three times tonight and now i have a core.
first time ten minutes, second 3 and third lasted an hour.
i'm not sure it is related to the drawing name problem.

Crash in 21.2.33 with buffer tabs

Unfortunately, this is a post mortem report.
Switching buffers using the tabs was ok after startup. But after a while when
selecting one of the tabs - boom.
In XEmacs 21.2 (beta33) "Melpomene" [Lucid] (i686-pc-linux) of Tue May 2 2000
on altmark
configured using `configure --site-includes=/usr/local/include
--site-libraries=/usr/local/lib --cflags=-O3 --debug=no --error-checking=none'

Please write in English, because the XEmacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.

cvs-upped May 3, 15:50 EDT (Canada).
The "Save options" entry in the "Options" menu was recently changed
to:
"Save Options to .emacs File"
This isn't true. It saves options to the value of the variable
custom-file:

`custom-file' is a variable declared in Lisp.

Value: "~/.custom"
Documentation:
File used for storing customization information.
If you change this from the default "~/.emacs" you need to
explicitly load that file for the settings to take effect.

Please either make the menu reflect reality, or change it back to

But if this may be helpful, I've found a way to reproduce this crash:
Start xemacs -vanilla (from within gdb).
Open two or more files of same type (e.g. *.el files) in order to have all of
their buffer tabs displayed at the same time (as buffers-tab-selection-function
is set to select-buffers-tab-buffers-by-mode by default).
Clicking randomly on the different tabs works fine.
Do a M-x font-lock-mode. Click on a tab -> boom ...
I've checked this with Emacs-Lisp and Shell-script major mode, but I think it
should show the same behaviour for all the other modes.
