As a proof-of-concept, this actually pops up a button in its own top-level
window. The gtk-register-widget can load up the gnome libraries as well,
but you need a #%!＠-load of preloads for it to work (gnomeui depends on
gnome, gnomesupport, esd, and audiofile on my freebsd work. Feh.
The generic argument setting code appears to work. Fun fun fun.

XEmacs-specific stuff? Probably not, though you never really know.
Generic stuff? Definitely -- that's how Gtk themes work. You might
look into "ghost specifiers" for implementing that. For instance,
XEmacs on Windows is supposed to respect the user's system-wide color
settings.

I'm just wondering if I need to worry about face settings outside of
custom. I really don't think I want to encourage that, so I'm not going to
spend too much time on it. It looks like a pain to get a specific 'named'
style out of an rc file.

The generic stuff works great right now, but it could probably be much
better. I've tried it out with about 9 themes so far - pretty scary stuff.
I've still yet to figure out the dynamic style updating that some Gtk apps
and Gnome support. Seeing XEmacs use the 'Metal' motif is particulary
weird. Just wait until I get the pixmap loading working. :)

Sure. Here you go. I used the IBM C for AIX Compiler, Version 5.
BTW: I looked into my config.log and there are indeed errors/warnings with
respect to #include, but as said no noticable impact on compilation (and also
operation so far).

It was definitely 19.12. But even though the code changes, design

Well, chuck completely threw out the old redisplay system for ... 19.12?
Or was it 19.13. I'm so confused. :) Probably at the time it was just
easier to get it done that way.
Anyway, I've gotten the scrollbar issues worked out with Gtk, I just wish
it hadn't been necessary.

I'd rather see 1 output engine be special cased than the 'n - 1' that we
have now. With 'n' constantly increasing (Mac, Win32, X, Gtk, etc,
etc). :)
