In XEmacs 21.2 (beta33) "Melpomene" [Lucid] (sparc-sun-solaris2.7) of Wed May 3 2000 on rhea

cvs-upped on May 3, 15:50 EDT (Canada)
Every time I quit from gnus after having gone into a Summary buffer,
XEmacs crashes. I start gnus in a separate frame, and when I quit
from gnus, the frame is deleted.
<Aside>
In order to get a reasonable C backtrace (even when running in gdb),
I had to break in assertion_failed. *IDEA*: Perhaps the abort from
an assertion failed should *not* be caught by the fatal signal
handler. Put the lisp backtrace generation in the assertion_failed
routine, and unhook the SIGABRT signal handler, so that the
operating system can dump core without messing up the backtrace.
Perhaps I'll test this.

Just creating and deleting a frame doesn't do it. Perhaps it is
gutter-related, with the buffers in the gutter tabs being deleted just
before the frame is deleted. It certainly doesn't crash I disable
gutter tabs.

I agree it would be a nice thing to have. Preferably this would
consist of exporting the Xsession protocol to lisp hooks and then
fitting something like session.el (which I have never used but i
supposed to be good) it in.

This is just to document the 21.1.10-candidate cannot build info with
external makeinfo program natively on NT.
This is NOT a new problem.
I don't intend to fix this for 21.1. It does work in 21.2-beta.

Still no menus or toolbars, but scrollbars are much more usable now. I've
also finished up the first cut at the generic function evaluation. A

If you evaluate that, you would then be able to do:

This pops up a window on the display. You can also use 'put' and 'get' to
set arbitrary widget properties. They don't seem to update as quickly as
I'd like right now though - not sure why. But they _do_ work. :
I need to write a bunch of annoying tedious argument marshalling routines,
but the current code bitches and tells you exactly which one to define if
it can't find one. It builds up the marshalling function name while in
gtk-import-function-internal, based on the return value and argument types.
God I wish C had 'apply'. I'm going to check this code in later tonight.
I still plan on doing the generic interface, but after digging around the
GTK object model for most of a day and night it looks like there is a lot
of stuff you wouldn't be able to do via the get/set functions. The core
GTK widgets allow you to do most things, but there are some GNOME widgets
that don't define any (new) settable properties for themselves.
There is also a new function (dll-load "foo.so") that simply loads a
library into XEmacs' address space, for subsequent use by
gtk-import-function-internal. This will be used to load up the gnome
libraries, but avoid linking XEmacs directly to them.
Bow before the might of XEmacs... we kick ass. :) I'm getting too slaphappy
to work any more on this tonight. Andy - just wait until you have a 5 year
old puke all over your office floor at 2a in the morning. Now _thats_ fun
to clean up. :) 'Dad, I didn't know you worked this late... BLORRRRT'

I'm going to futz with this in a few days with my GTK flavor of XEmacs. I
don't know if you can use the gnome session objects without using the gtk
event loop and widgets though.
