crypt (or tar) breakage? 25 years, 2 months

One of the coolest features of xemacs seems to be broken as of 21.2b10. I have (require 'crypt) If I visit a .tar.gz, it should not only ungzip, but will put me in tar mode. That doesn't work anymore. Instead I get c½ÅOé =i has size -59888002 - corrupted. parsing tar file...2% parsing tar file...1% parsing tar file...

[21.0b62] auctex, NT4.0 25 years, 2 months

I installed xemacs21.0b62 on NT4.0 SP4 using xemacs-install-990105.exe. Installation worked fine, no problems. When I tried to compile a LaTeX file (with \usepackage{german} in it), there appeared the following error message: Cannot load file: /style/german.el The value of TeX-style-path is gives as: "style/" "auto/" "e:\\...\\auctex\\/style/" "e:\\...\\auctex\\/auto/" The value of TeX-lisp directory is: "e:\\...\\auctex\\/" The value of TeX-style-global is: "e:\\...\\auctex\\/style/" I think the problem is caused by "\\/". When I replaced all "\\" and "\\/" with "/", everything worked fine. Maybe someone can fix this in a future version of xemacs-install or auctex. XEmacs dumped core after a weird gnus session 25 years, 2 months

This bug report will be sent to the XEmacs Development Team, not to your local site managers!! Please write in English, because the XEmacs maintainers do not have translators to read other languages for them. In XEmacs 21.2 "Boreas" [Lucid] (i386-bong-linux, Mule) of Fri Feb 12 1999 on bong configured using `configure i386-bong-linux --debug=no --error-checking=none --memory-usage-stats=no '--cflags=-g -O4 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-loops=2 -malign-functions=2 -finline-functions' --with-mule=yes' Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug and the precise symptoms of the bug: I got an error in gnus (some dired function), tried to leave gnus typing 'q', which yielded another error message. The gnus group buffer was still visible but 'q' was no valid command anymore. Typing 'C-x C-c' then lead to a delay of some seconds, then XEmacs dumped core. Fatal error (11). Your files have been auto-saved. Use `M-x recover-session' to recover them. Please report this bug by running the send-pr script included with XEmacs, or selecting `Send Bug Report' from the help menu. As a last resort send ordinary email to `crashes(a)xemacs.org'. *MAKE SURE* to include the information in the command M-x describe-installation. $PATH bug? 25 years, 2 months

I have noticed that lib-src directories get added to `exec-path' but not $PATH. This is causing tmdecode to choke when decoding base64 or QP -- it cannot find mmencode: text/plain; quoted-printable -> /tmp/ab.patch /usr/local/lib/xemacs/xemacs-packages/lib-src/tmdecode: mmencode: 見つかりません[1] Process tm-file exited abnormally with code 1 Shouldn't lib-src directories also get appended to $PATH? In the case I'm citing, tmdecode and mmencode don't live in the same directory. tmdecode lives in the xemacs-packages lib-src directory, and mmencode lives in the XEmacs core lib-src directory. Taking the full path to tmdecode is not going to help one bit about finding mmencode[1]. Both need to be exported via $PATH, IMO.
