Hello,
Working with cvs for a long time, I am _very_ used to vc-cvs in xemacs.
While searching the same support for svn, I found this:
http://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/SvnTricks :
"Due to divergence between xemacs's vc and emacs's vc, vc-svn doesn't work
with xemacs. There is also psvn, which should work on xemacs, available in
contrib/client-side/psvn in the subversion source distribution."
Is this true? I don't like psvn and I think it makes xemacs ... well...
antiquated compared to the never IDEs like kdevelop or eclipse.
What do you use when working with xemacs und svn ?
What can _I_ do to help adding vc-svn?
Mit freundlichen Grüßen
Markus Grunwald

This bug report will be sent to the XEmacs Development Team,
not to your local site managers!!
Please write in English, because the XEmacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.
Please describe as succinctly as possible:
- What happened.
- What you thought should have happened.
- Precisely what you were doing at the time.
Please also include any C or lisp back-traces that you may have.
================================================================
Dear Bug Team!
When running Xemacs version 21 remotely (displaying on my local X
server) I have found that any multicharacter kills (such as kill-line,
kill-word, kill-ring-save, etc.) are extremely slow (maybe 15-30
seconds per kill). I only see this delay when I am running over a DSL
connection where the ping times to the remote system are on the order
of 100 milliseconds or more. When my local machine is on the same LAN
as the remote machine (much shorter ping times), I do not notice any
unusual delay in multicharacter kills. I also do not see this problem
when running Xemacs version 20.
My local X server when using the DSL connection is Exceed 3D running
under Microsoft Windows 98SE. When using the LAN, my local X server
is also Exceed 3D but running under Microsoft Windows 2000.
Yours,
David

:-( . Can it be that your font-lock.el (in the XEmacs core lisp) is
corrupted? If you download it from:
http://cvs.xemacs.org/viewcvs.cgi/*checkout*/XEmacs/xemacs/lisp/font-lock...
and load it in your XEmacs, does that improve things?

Yeah, I generated that patch from the XEmacs CVS, but I had been using the
version of Gnus from their CVS as well. Excuse the confusion.

What's your locale? I bet that one or more of LANG, LC_CTYPE, or
LC_ALL is set to a UTF-8 locale. ("echo $LANG, $LC_CTYPE, $LC_ALL" at
the command line will give this info.)
Try starting XEmacs with "LANG=C xemacs-mule". (If this works, it is
a workaround, XEmacs should *never* crash because it doesn't like the
locale.)

Hm. I think I know what you do when the boss isn't looking!

That's probably it, although it might not be for the xemacs-mule
build. If you install it, then ask rpm where it put the files, you
should be able to start gdb on xemacs and a core file, then say
(gdb) add-symbol-file /path/to/symbol/file
*But* at this point it won't make any difference, because your
backtraces are "smashed" (something may have overwritten the memory
where the stack is kept) and there's no interesting XEmacs information
in them:
> (gdb) where
> #0 0x00002b016eddc487 in kill () from /lib64/libc.so.6
> #1 0x000000000047385e in fatal_error_signal (sig=11)

> #2 0x00002b016eddc030 in killpg () from /lib64/libc.so.6
> #3 0x0000000000000000 in ?? ()
What often provides better information is to start XEmacs with
something like
$ gdb `which xemacs-mule` | tee xemacs.trace
<gdb banner and initialization info comes here>
(gdb) run
<crash info comes here>
(gdb)
At this point a bt will probably give you more interesting information
(doesn't always, but gdb is able to protect the stack in many cases).
In that case, getting the symbol table installed into gdb using the
add-symbol-file command is very very helpful.

Dear Bug Team!
I've font-lock-mode turned on by default. Using Gnus (from CVS as
well; updated and installed shortly before this bug report) and
answering an email (yank (with Supercite as in the XEmacs repository)
and reply) font locking runs into an infinite loop while "Fontifying
*wide reply to <recipient>*... (regexps).." is shown in the status
bar.
The mouse cursor continuously changes from the busy cursor to the
normal cursor and back.
The backtrace below ("recent messages") is shown when I abort
fontifying (Meta-g; which I usually have to press *twice* before it
really aborts).
Consequently, in the buffer to be fontified usually exactly one line
is correctly fontified while the rest is unmodified.
Interestingly, if I turn *off* font-lock-mode and switch it back on
while inside that buffer, it's being fontified correctly instantly.
I *think* I've seen this problem years ago once already and someone on
this list told me about a switch for font-lock-mode that fixed the
infinite loop but unfortunately I can't find the message in the
archives.
Feel free to request any additional information.
Oh, btw, why is my XEmacs standard menu ("File", etc.) suddenly in
German?

Warning:
Defaulting to the GNU Emacs-derived `sendmail.el' mail client. This facility,
while part of base XEmacs, is heinously underfeatured, and not going to get
better in the medium term. We include it so that bug reports work without
packages; we suggest that you choose and/or install one of the other mail
clients from packages if you're doing something other than M-x
report-xemacs-bug , or even if you are reporting bugs regularly.
To choose a package from those installed, click on "Options" ->
"Internet" -> "Compose Mail With ..." and decide on one from the
list. Gnus and VM are full-featured and have active user communities.
To disable this warning and stick with the old behavior, you can explicitly
initialize `mail-user-agent' to 'sendmail-user-agent .

I have Gnus from CVS, but I haven’t been able to replicate what Wulf sees at
all.

When I was in the scouts, the leader told me to pitch a tent. I couldn't
find any pitch, so I used creosote.
