This must be a fairly common requirement. I wonder how others address it. When sending mail withing my local organization I want my From header to say one thing, but for external mail I'd like it to say something else. I wish there was some quick way for me to switch back and forth. What do other people do?

Certain messages defy pop3 .uidls tracking mechanism ... 22 years, 8 months

Thanks to a suggestion from Stephen Turnbull of upgrading to 21.4.6, I've basically gotten the pop3-leave-mail-on-server functionality working with gnus. However, I've discovered that certain messages (some spam, some not) seem to override whatever mechanism pop3 uses to track which messages have been read. These messages get downloaded as new mail every time I do a check, regardless of how many times I've seen them before. I believe pop3.el is writing the message ID to the .uidls file, so I assume it's something about the message IDs of these messages that breaks that. I've attached an example of one of these messages. Please let me know if you need more info. Can't use mail-lib pop3 on Windows NT or 2000 22 years, 8 months

In XEmacs 21.4 (patch 3) "Academic Rigor" [Lucid] (i586-pc-win32) of Thu May 17 2001 on SHALOM configured using `configure UNKNOWN' Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug and the precise symptoms of the bug: I'm trying to use gnus 5.8.8 with the option pop3-leave-mail-on-server to leave mail on the pop server. This requires using the pop3.el from mail-lib. However, I'm getting errors in writing the .uidls.old file that pop3.el uses to keep track of which messages have been read.
