texinfo mode frustrations

Hi,
I'm getting really frustrated by the way the texinfo mode works, and I
was wondering if it's only me that has these problems.
Essentially I try to use the texinfo mode to update all the nodes in
my document. The basic pattern I follow is to outline the general
structure of the document first, and then start working on each
individual chapter. Each chapter has its own sections, subsections and
so on. At the time of outlining the structure of the document I don't
necessarily know all the section names. So I find myself very often in
need for introducing a new section in between two others.
I'd like to use the texinfo mode to automatically update the node
pointers, using the texinfo-every-node-update and
texinfo-all-menus-update. However this seems to not work as
expected. For example it forgets to add pointers to the top node, and
sometimes even to the next or previous node. Even if I explicitly
write them, the next time I run the command it will remove them. So
what I ended up doing is not use the command altogether, and editing
the node pointers manually. Very unproductive!
Needless to say, when I run such a document file through makeinfo or
texinfo, I get tons of complains about missing node pointers. Anybody
else seeing this, or am I doing something stupid here?

i've done a little snooping around in font-lock to see what coud be
causing this problem (affects only VM for me).
in font-lock-default-fontify-buffer, there is a call to
unfontify-region followed by a fontify-region.

i played around with commenting out each or both of these calls.

Internationalization:
Compiling in support for Mule (multi-lingual Emacs).
Mail:
Compiling in support for "dot-locking" mail spool file locking method.
Other Features:
Compiling in support for dynamic shared object modules.
Problems:
1. There are some C++ comments in the source. Attached patch takes
care of that.
2. Linking temacs fails because compiler invocation lacks -lX11.
3. Does it really have to use Imlib?
4. When XEmacs is run, a place for scrollbar is reserved, but the
scrollbar is not shown. Buffer tabs are also not shown. There is
only an empty gray area instead. Screenshot attached. It uses
GTKStep theme, but the same thing happens with default theme, as well.

[PATCH] Properly make mouse-track-click-hook local in compile.el

I would like to commit this later today, now that Ben has fixed
mouse.el for 21.5.
In 21.1 mouse-track-insert between buffers will not work.
My workaround to make the hook global in compile.el is not the correct
solution for this problem.
21.1 mouse.el should be synced with 21.5 instead.
