How would I go about having all open files have a tab right below the toolbar, right now I'm not quite sure how xemacs chooses which files go there, but I'd like all to go there. Also, where in the furture would I find this information out on my own? Please cc all replies to me as I'm not on the list. -Matt

Problems migrating init file in 21.4.3 23 years, 6 months

I just installed 21.4.3. send-pr (see earlier message) won't work, so I'm just mailing the bugs in. After fixing or commenting out code in my .emacs file that would not play with 21.4.3, I tried M-x migrate-user-init-file. It seemed to run OK, but the next time I started XEmacs, it said it could not find my init file. I looked in ~/.xemacs and saw init.el, but it was a link to ./emacs.laptop. But .emacs.laptop is located in my root directory. Why is it trying to use .emacs.laptop? I don't know. But I fixed the symlink and it seems to be OK, now. It may be because I had a symlink for .emacs. I don't remember, but it is possible. It did correctly strip the custom stuff out and put it in ~/.xemacs/custom.el. R. Problems with 21.4.3 "Academic Rigor" 23 years, 6 months

I have had several problems with 21.4.3, the first to mention is that I could not do a send-pr. When I invoke M-x send-pr, I get the message: send-pr: the GNATS site xemacs.org does not have a categories list. Sigh. So I am sending in several problem reports to this list pending the ability to run send-pr. Built on Tru64 UNIX V4.0d and configured as: ./configure --without-gcc '--cflags=-fast -std' --with-site-lisp --site-includes=/usr/local/include More serious problems to follow. R. mule question 23 years, 6 months

I've always build w/o mule, but a colleague needs mule he's building his own executable, but I thought we might as well share the same packages tree, since we saw that the mule-sumo tarball just has the extra mule stuff in it - it un-tars nicely into its own mule-packages subdir in lib/xemacs, parallel to the xemacs-packages I was already using but now when I start my non-mule xemacs I see these warnings: (1) (warning/warning) Autoload error in: /usr/net/rnd/lib/xemacs/mule-packages/lisp/skk/auto-autoloads: Cannot open load file: mule (2) (warning/warning) Autoload error in: /usr/net/rnd/lib/xemacs/mule-packages/lisp/lookup/auto-autoloads: Cannot open load file: mule is this just one of those "don't do that" things, or should this be ok? that is, should we just ignore the warnings, or do they indicate some deeper badness? thx, -- John A. This bug report will be sent to the XEmacs Development Team, not to your local site managers!! Please write in English, because the XEmacs maintainers do not have translators to read other languages for them. In XEmacs 21.2 (beta46) "Urania" [Lucid] (sparc-sun-solaris2.8) of Tue Apr 10 2001 on sibelius configured using `configure --prefix=/s/chopin/d/proj/meps/common' Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug and the precise symptoms of the bug: I have noticed that when I yank text with C-y and then want to go back through the kill ring with M-y it takes several M-y's before the first thing yanked is replaced by something different. I have noticed this for a while across several versions, I just finely got irritated enough to complain about it ;-) The recent keystrokes below contain my entire test run in a vanilla xemacs. I believe the the first M-y should have altered my inserted text but in this case it did not change until the fourth try. XEmacs 21.4.3 "Academic Rigor" is released. 23 years, 6 months

* XEmacs 21.4.3 "Academic Rigor" is released. "Academic Rigor" is the fourth in the OXYMORON series. Relative to XEmacs 21.4.2 "Developer-Friendly Unix APIs", it contains fixes to two build bugs on Windows platforms and one for TTY-only, and a few typo fixes in the documentation. More detailed information about the changes is presented below. The first release in this series, Xemacs 21.4.0 "Solid Vapor", contained a large number of improvements and extensions to the current stable version, XEmacs 21.1.14. For more information about the OXYMORON series, see etc/NEWS, the initial release announcement http://www.xemacs.org/Releases/21.4.0.html and the release planning page, http://www.xemacs.org/Releases/Public-21.2/. For general information about XEmacs, the developers, and the user community, see our home page, http://www.xemacs.org/. * XEmacs 21.4.3 is "gamma" software. Besides the usual "no warranty" disclaimer (see etc/WARRANTY, sections 10 and 11), we are now experimenting with a level of stability intermediate between "beta" and "stable", dubbed "gamma". At this point all the developers and most of our beta testers trust the 21.4 code base with all their editing needs. However, for several reasons, for users who absolutely must minimize risk, we continue to recommend the 21.1 series. Nevertheless, almost all users will get very high reliability from XEmacs 21.4, and in return, access to many new features and improved functionality. No new destabilizing code will be added; each release in the 21.4 series should be strictly more stable and bug-free than the preceding one. Could it be xaw-wrapper and xaw3d thing? This is Yoshiki> the only possibility I can guess. Not related to xaw3d. This situation was fixed in sid (afaik). It looks like bad values to an XDrawLine. I haven't tracked it down beyond that yet.
