configure probs with sparc-unknown-linux 24 years, 9 months

I'm not able to build XEmacs on Redhat Linux 6.1 for sparc due to some problems with the configure script. This goes for the latest 21.2 beta as well as 21.1.9. `sed' is having trouble with some of the lines in conftest.s2 and conftest.frag. sed on this machine is GNU sed version 3.02. Has anyone else seen this problem? The output below is what I see at the end of ./configure just after Installation is written out. The mule-package stuff only works for the default package path. > ../configure '--package-path=/afs/pdc.kth.se/common/usr/local/vol/xemacs-common' This is means it should search a package hierarchy in .../xemacs-common i.e. .../xemacs-common/lisp .../xemacs-common/etc etc... The reason it is sill finding your packages is that it setup such that all subdirectories of an hierarchy that do not match packages-special-base-regexp are also considered as separate hierarchies. A most annoying feature if you ask me. You need to do for non-mule --package-path=/afs/pdc.kth.se/common/usr/local/vol/xemacs-common/site-packages:/afs/pdc.kth.se/common/usr/local/vol/xemacs-common/xemacs-packages and for mule.. --package-path=/afs/pdc.kth.se/common/usr/local/vol/xemacs-common/site-packages:/afs/pdc.kth.se/common/usr/local/vol/xemacs-common/mule-packages:/afs/pdc.kth.se/common/usr/local/vol/xemacs-common/xemacs-packages Jan

With latest (CVS) XEmacs 21.1 and the latest SUMO tar-balls (both the mule and the non-mule) installed, I get this error (even if I start with -no-init-file): (1) (warning/warning) Autoload error in: /afs/pdc.kth.se/common/usr/local/vol/xemacs-common/mule-packages/lisp/skk/auto-autoloads: Cannot open load file: mule (2) (warning/warning) Autoload error in: /afs/pdc.kth.se/common/usr/local/vol/xemacs-common/mule-packages/lisp/lookup/auto-autoloads: Cannot open load file: mule Why is this non-mule XEmacs looking in that file at all? Is it impossible to have the mule SUMO tar-ball installed if I compile a XEmacs without mule support? I want to have both a mule and a non-mule XEmacs installed, preferably with the same package path. No problem with the mule XEmacs. Anyway this is a good reason patches need to be applied as soon a possible. Jan

PDUMPed XEmacs needs a switch to suppress dump loading 24 years, 9 months

I propose to name it -temacs and --no-dump-file (both, as aliases). They must be present and do nothing in non-pdump'ed verison too. I am not sure if -batch should imply this, and I tend to think that no, this would be too restrictive. Big K

XEmacs function-menu vs. nested functions 24 years, 9 months

Create a file x.py with the following contents: #!/usr/bin/env python def x(): def xx(): pass Now load this into XEmacs and do M-x function-menu RET Apparently func-menu.el can't deal with this (legal) Python construction. I'll take a crack at fixing this, if nobody beats me to it. I have Func-Menu v2.63 which I believe is the latest, using it with XEmacs-21.1.9

latest cvs fails... ldap 24 years, 9 months

It calls some function to recompute the menus from some hook (menubar-update-hook?). I remember there is a Changelog entry complaining that this hook cannot be buffer local under XEmacs. Maybe something is going wrong there. Jan P.S. In the betas they had a more XEmacs like :filter based solution that would have been much clearer under XEmacs. Unfortunately for some reason (deficiencies in the FSF :filter?) they cooked up their own solution in the end.
