21.2.29 build failure with canna 25 years, 1 month

There's some report at xemacs-beta-ja that XEmacs 21.2.29 can't build with --with-canna option. More than half comes from mule-canna.c. It's possible some of them are #ifdef'ed out, but there's 234 entry which might be in dumpopaquevec. Ugh oh... gtk is for sure not any longer "fast and lean"... it's still fast enough, though. And for the bugs: Gtk is besides Motif/lesstif (and QT, which isn't considered here) the only of the used widget libs that has proven to be able to deliver big, nice looking and working GUI applications. It's the only one that is in active development AND bugfixing mode (this is sure right for lesstif, too, but they strive for emulation, which limits the way it can be changed) I don't see any big Xaw apps being made any longer. GTK is simply _supported_. Neither do I see anything using the lucid widget set (for obvious reasons) jtl

Installing 21.2.x in parallel with 21.1.x 25 years, 1 month

I built and installed 21.1.x from sources and installed it off of my home directory (prefix=$HOME). I also installed all the packages in the default locations relative to my home directory. I'd like to download the latest beta release from the CVS server and install it (and it's associated packages) such that it will not conflict with my 21.1.x installation. How can I do this? I did read the web pages at cvs.xemacs.org but I'm not sure how I can follow these instructions and keep the two installation safely in parallel.
