Looking for developers to add GUI toolkit to XEmacs and/or InfoDock. 25 years, 1 month

Hi all: FYI, there is a BeOpen.com-sponsored project at SourceXchange for paid work to integrate an Open Source GUI toolkit with XEmacs and InfoDock (BeOpen.com's Open Source IDE built atop XEmacs). The code developed under the project will be GPLed and broadly distributed. Visit www.sourceXchange.com and browse the RFPs section for specific details on the project which is titled Graphical InfoDock/XEmacs. I've been having problems with this on my Redhat 6.1/glibc-2.1.2 system. It would appear that `getaddrinfo' attempts to lookup the hostname as an IPv6 address first, before then attempting to resolve it as a IPv4 address. This has led to the ol' long pauses at xemacs startup whilst Diald brings up my modem connection, presumably to attempt the IPv6 lookup. I've been commenting out the line in `config.h' as suggested by Martin. Is there a better way to handle this? -- Mike <mike(a)lotusland.demon.co.uk>

Sound crashes xemacs-21.2.29 25 years, 1 month

In XEmacs 21.2 (beta29) "Hestia" [Lucid] (ppc-unknown-linux) of Mon Feb 21 2000 on chezmoi configured using `configure --prefix=/usr --package-path=/var/tmp/xemacs-root/usr/lib/xemacs/xemacs-packages --debug=no --error-checking=none --with-pop --mail-locking=flock --with-mule=no --dynamic=yes --lockdir=/var/lock/xemacs' Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug and the precise symptoms of the bug: Any keystroke that should cause a sound, for example going back at the beginning of the buffer, or a simple C-g, crashes xemacs. The last time I built the packages (2/17), here's what I found: 1. Yoshiki's patch fixed the "Invalid read syntax" errors. 2. I still got the efs build problem: While compiling toplevel forms in file /usr/local/build/xemacs-packages-2000-02-17/libs/efs/efs-vm.el: !! File error (("Cannot open load file" "vm")) Done 3. Of the other problems, only the VHDL problem remained: While compiling toplevel forms in file /usr/local/build/xemacs-packages-2000-02-17/prog/vhdl/vhdl-mode.el: !! File error (("Cannot open load file" "assoc")) Done I will re-build the packages now. BTW, I use a 21.1.9 mule-enabled XEmacs for building the packages, in case that matters. - vin

This patch: 2000-01-27 URA Hiroshi <ura(a)hiru.aoba.yokohama.jp> * config.h.in: added HAVE_GETADDRINFO and HAVE_GETNAMEINFO * sysdep.c: In init_system_name(), add code to use getaddrinfo() instead of gethostbyname() * process-unix.c: In unix_canonicalize_host_name() and unix_open_network_stream(), add code to use getaddrinfo() instead of gethostbyname(). breaks networking on AIX 4.3. This shows up in the IBM APARs as IY04165, but there's not PTF for the problem (yet?) which makes patching the OS a lengthy and impractical operation.
