This undoes my unexcw.c change. From discussions I'm not sure whether this
is at fault or cygwin itself. To re-enable the old behaviour (which allows
you to debug with gdb 5.0) define BROKEN_GDB.
Let me know how you get on.

I first noticed it with 21.2.36 "Notus" on Linux:

I couldn't reproduce it with 21.2.35 "Nike" (neither on Linux nor on
AIX) and IIRC from the time I used 21.2.35 (not soo long ago! ;-) ), it
has never occured with that XEmacs version.

I should also note that I have set `buffers-tab-selection-function' to
nil. Only this in addition to the two other settings shows all buffer
tabs at a time.
Ah, and it looks like it has to do with whether there's already a buffer
open for a file or if you open a file for the first time. In other
words, here's how I can reproduce the aforementioned behaviour:
Start XEmacs, set the above variables for buffer-tabs to their values to
display the tabs for *all* buffers, open a few files - long filenames
preferred - until the gutter is filled up with buffer tabs. This is all
ok, as long as you open files for which there's no existing buffer (i.e.
haven't been opened before). But if you *switch* to a file previously
opened (i.e. an existing buffer), the buffer tabs overlap.
Hopefully this is enough information so that an expert can track this
down ...

Tabs widget problem in 21.2.37

Apparently the problem reported by Stephen in
http://www.xemacs.org/list-archives/xemacs-beta/200010/msg00190.html
still exists in 21.2.37, although I had to set
`buffers-tab-filter-functions' to nil in order to see the tabs of all
open buffers. Previously, I just had to set
buffers-tab-max-buffer-line-length 25
buffers-tab-max-size 6
to get all of the tabs.

This patch stops popup frames getting buffer tabs, in particular the
balloon help frame. It should also by side effect fix the crash someone was
seeing in gnus. This was caused by balloon help trying to appear. The real
cause of the crash I have yet to fix (its because autodetect glyphs can
cause strings to get instantiated but don't have their governing domain set
to the same thing).

I have used SF a lot over the past few month and my experience matches
Jan's.
SF support is highly unpredictable.
I would feel uneasy to depend on them exclusively.

ldap on native win32

Ldap is available on many win32 platforms, but unfortunately not on
all. Compiling with ldap is ok on nt, but xemacs.exe will fail to load
on platforms lacking Wldap32.dll . What would be an acceptable
solution to enable ldap on win32 platforms that have this dll ?
One immediate solution is to encapsulate calls to basic ldap_* C
functions, and let them return a default value. But this will lead to
ldap functions being available at the elisp level, but doing nothing at
the C level.
Another answer would be to put the ldap stuff in a module, but the
modules are not yet supported on native win32.
Any idea on this subject ?

I am still ambivalent about sourceforge, for instance up to
a few minutes ago I was unable ssh into shell1.
Over the last few months I have had several support requests up with
the sourceforge team. They have never been able to figure out what the
problem was, and kept closing the case after any action on their
part, successfull or not. They were friendly, I hate feeling like just
one of the crowd.
