Gnus will not abandon support of the point-at-* functions, but continue to use gnus-point-at-* aliases, which now resolves to either point-at-* or line-*-position, depending on which of them are defined. > I'm frustrated by the situation. Support of XEmacs 20.4 is *good*. It should still be in wide usage past the millenium if the world doesn't fall apart. Anyway, the functions themselves are without a doubt most useful. Usage of them has spread into a surprising (to me) amount of XEmacs code. I'm frustrated by the situation. There was nothing basically wrong with the old names, and they've been out there for quite awhile. Oh well.

I've made the change, but I wish I had been asked first before the names were changed. :-(
