[bug] Toolbar sizing 26 years, 6 months

Here is a brand new bug introduced by the latest toolbar size patch: * Split a frame and evaluate (set-specifier default-toolbar-height 48 (selected-window)) * Now press C-TAB. Toolbar is resized -- good! But now keep pressing C-TAB to switch between the windows, and you'll notice that the upper window gradually gets smaller. Under the non-fixed height assumption, window size rounding seems quite bogus. Also C-x 2 already produces 2 windows with half-height lines starting from an odd-height window. While I don't really like this, I'm probably in the minority in preferring the emacs-18 look -- I use a single font with fixed height and width and set the modeline shadow to zero to keep every line character height and avoid clipping. I have split-window-vertically defadviced to round to an integral split. greg

I downloaded giflib-3.1pre1.tar.gz and giflib-3.1-pre1.patch from the XEmacs ftp site - are these the right versions? I haven't been able to get these to build - I get a raft of errors (see below). It builds a library anyway, but it does not work - XEmacs doesn't like it, detection of libgif fails. letf in Emacs 26 years, 6 months

Hi! I wonder if you are still willing to be bugged about these things..... Anyway, if yes, here is a question: `letf', as implemented by cl-macs, is suboptimal. It always works like this (roughly): `(let ((oldval VAR)) (unwind-protect (progn (setf VAR VALUE) ,＠body) (setf VAR oldval))) While this works generally, for some defsetfs it is pretty wasteful. For instance, it would be nice if: (letf (((current-buffer) somebuffer)) ...) were transformed to: (save-current-buffer (set-buffer somebuffer) ...) instead of the usual unwind-protect drill. It would be a win because save-current-buffer is a subr in (X)Emacs 20. The same applies to other cases, where it is a matter of correctness rather than efficiency. For example, `specifier-instance' has `set-specifier' as its setf method. This means that this: (letf (((specifier-instance SPECIFIER VALUE DOMAIN))) ... code ...) doesn't work as expected, because it expands to: `(let ((oldval (specifier-instance SPECIFIER DOMAIN))) (unwind-protect (progn (set-specifier SPECIFIER VALUE DOMAIN) ,＠body) (set-specifier SPECIFIER OLDVAL DOMAIN))) However, the second `set-specifier' is incorrect, because it adds a new specification to DOMAIN instead of removing the temporary one. This `letf' should actually expand to: (with-specifier-instance SPECIFIER VALUE DOMAIN ... code ...) because with-specifier-instance knows how to handle this correctly. So, is there a way to detach `letf' from `setf'?
