"21.0 \"Pyrenean-pre4\" XEmacs Lucid" can't see my packages 26 years, 1 month

Hello all package system developers! As I have reported before, "21.0 \"Pyrenean-pre4\" XEmacs Lucid" is rather useless out of the box when it comes to package listing package installation Could somebody please tell me which patches I need to install on top of vanilla emacs-version "21.0 \"Pyrenean-pre4\" XEmacs Lucid" to get the package system up and running again? Here is what I see when invoking Options->Manage Packages->List _ Install[1]: Latest Installed Package name Vers. Vers. Description =============================================================================== =============================================================================== Symbols in the leftmost column: + The package is marked for installation. - The package has not been installed. * The currently installed package is old, and a newer version is available. Useful keys: `return' to select/unselect the current package for installation. `r' to add any packages required by those selected. `x' to install selected packages. `space' to display additional information about the package in the modeline. `g' to refresh the package list. `v' to toggle between a verbose and non-verbose display. `q' to kill this buffer. READ-FROM-STRING is one of the rare functions that takes both &OPTIONAL and &KEY arguments: READ-FROM-STRING string &OPTIONAL eof-error-p eof-value &KEY :start :end :preserve-whitespace When a function takes both types of arguments, all the optional arguments must be specified explicitly before any of the keyword arguments may be specified. In the example above, :START becomes the value of the optional EOF-ERROR-P parameter and 3 is the value of the optional EOF-VALUE parameter. To get the desired result, you should use (READ-FROM-STRING "foobar" t nil :START 3) If you need to understand and use the optional arguments, please refer to CLTL2 under READ-FROM-STRING, otherwise, this will behave as desired for most purposes.
