Hi, all,
Although I wasn't able to participate, I took a look at the feedback
meeting. There are a bunch of interesting suggestions to other orgs
that we could certainly apply to our ideas page. I think it would be
a good idea to brush up the whole ArchitectingXEmacs area, not just
with future GSoC in mind, but also to try to attract people
year-round.
The log is here:
http://ibot.rikers.org/%23gsoc/20130419.html.gz, the
relevant parts start at 16:00.
This year's criteria seemed to be (1) new orgs and (2) diverse areas.
So, for example, many projects that got slots in the past were
rejected. And a lot of OS projects applied, and a lot got rejected.
I think that (2) leads me to the conclusion that teaming up with
SXEmacs is a *good* idea. I suspect that the Google people will
probably be of a mind that we ought to get together with GNU Emacs
too, which I wouldn't be too happy about, and I guess Steve Y would
consider that a dealbreaker. I'll sound out the GSoC staffers about
that.
Other than that, I'll be open to ideas and suggestions for the next
several months, and I'll try to get organized in January or so to push
forward on a GSoC application for 2014 (assuming they do it, which I
gather they decide every year).
Thanks for your help and suggestions!
Steve
